I have the same question. According to united.com, "Star Alliance® Gold members, including MileagePlus® Premier® Gold, Premier Platinum and Premier 1K® members are allowed to check up to three bags, each with a maximum weight of 70 pounds and a maximum outside dimension of 62 linear inches." But, according to Lufthansa.com, Star Alliance Gold member get "2 bags up to 23 kg (50.7 lbs) each." So, what happens when I check in with UA but connect to LH?

If all 4 segments are on one ticket, the baggage allowance for your first segment (IAD-FRA) will continue for the remaining three segments. Has nothing to do with individual carriers or *A. It's a DOT rule.

That said, you may find outstation contract staff on the return won't honor the first segment rule. Don't get a fight because you won't win (on the spot). Pay and then contest the charge, attaching your itinerary and the DOT rule when you are back and the itinerary is complete.

I have a question on *A Gold baggage allowance.

I will be flying ZH in F at SZX and the stated allowance is 40Kg with no number of bags restriction.

I am a UA MP 1K as well as a SQ KF Gold, which makes me a *A Gold. I will most likely accrual my miles to SQ as I need the EQM to requalify by April.

What exact is the *A rule? I called ZH and asked and was told I have to check with my *A airline, in this case, it would be SQ. This does not seem right.

I always thought there is a standard *A rule which is either 100% of the weight or 1 more luggage.

Can anyone share some information?

Thanks in advance :)

Try to google "shenzhen airlines baggage allowance". The first link will put you on this page:

http://global.shenzhenair.com/zh/htm...gnbaggage.html

Star gold gives you an extra 20 kg.
