Valid Route Help
 

I'm new to calculating MPM and understanding route limitations on awards. I signed up for ExpertFlyer but I'm having a bit of trouble understanding whether my route is valid under the limits.

Below is the data from a route I put into EF for CLT-LAX-SIN-MLE, but I can't figure out how to decipher it. Is it a valid routing? Thanks!

Which program will you been redeeming miles from?

Going to try to book 2 tickets. 1 with United miles and 1 with US Air.

So, CLT -> LAX -> SIN -> MLE (all in Y) ?

It's definitely a valid routing. I was able to plug some dates in ual.com and get a quote on it for a different date from yours. Saver Y is 40,000 miles (one way with UA miles) plus taxes.

I selected a multiple destinations trip and put in each segment separately.

Wether or not you can get this on short notice as a saver award is a different story.

Not Y. Looking for Business or First. The trip won't be until Dec. 2013, I just put that date in there as a dummy. Great news that it is valid! Are the mileage requirements for the award consistent across the *A carriers?

Nope, each FFP has different mileage requirements...

You should be fine with both United and US Air. However, the problem is that SQ doesn't release C/F on their long-haul flights. So, you would have to do another routing.

UA doesn't enforce MPM for awards so no worries there. For US you would put in CLT-MLE and then get the MPM there; don't put in the whole routing. Once you have the number for the city pair in question then you have to see if your desired routing is higher or lower than the number you get from MPM.

A quick scan of the interwebs suggests that there is no MPM overage allowed officially but also that US agents apparently don't check it very often. Good luck.

When using 2 different sets of miles, I would prepare for the possibility that to make it work you may need to fly separately. Not saying it has to be that way, but if you are open to that the booking process might be easier for you.

It's for a honeymoon trip so I am decidedly against that. Hopefully I can avoid that problem.

UA allows one way awards and I think US does as well so it may be best to go outbound on one carrier and inbound on the other if you have issues with availability not matching up. The downside is you lose the opportunity for a stop over and potentially double any change fees.
