Another check in question

My son is flying PVG to YVR. Booked flight on United with miles- but it is an Air Canada flight. I know he can check in online with United, but at the airport- does he go to the Air Canada counter rather than United?

operating carrier

Always, always, always the operating carrier. It's an AC flight. If he goes to UA, there won't be an aircraft to board !

I also doubt he can check in online with UA.
OLCI will also be with AC, he may have to get AC's PNR which will
not necessarily be the same as UA's. He can call AC reservations
and give his name and flight to get the AC PNR.

The AC PNR should be on the United reservation page of the website. I have had trouble even with the AC PNR from UA using online checkin with AC.

He has his Air Canada reservation PNR as well. It looks like he can check in on UA- but we will see.
