Air China booking class
Hi guys,
just wondering if there is any way to find out the fare class of a particular flight on Air China from Vancouver to Singapore. All it says on the website is Economy. I know that calling them would probably help, but at least in one instance in the past I have called an airline to ask about the fare class, I was given one fare, and then when I booked that same flight it was a different lower fare, and I had no proof of what the agent told me on the phone. I find that email is best for this, so that I have a written proof, but Air China could could help me via email, they told me to call them :( |

Astrobeemer, when you reach Step 4 (Review) of the booking process on the CA international website, you will find a link labeled 'fare basis information' in the Price box. If you follow that link, the fare basis codes will be listed for each leg. The first letter of the fare basis code indicates the fare class.
Happy travels! Thank you very much! Now why couldn't CA tell me that in their email??!! |
You can also check with some success (although not guaranteed) on the routing through ITA software by matching the price to what you are seeing on the Air China Website.
Some of Air China's discount fares earn 50% miles with AC Aeroplan (if you're collecting with that FFP). |

I noticed that. If I want 100% aeroplan miles with CA, the economy price jumps from $1100 to $5000..that is absurd !! |

How did you obtained that figure? I understand you can see full fare from the website, that normally books into Y. Which is absurd! But if you try a TA, you can book into K or L, depends which one earns 100% on AC, the price should be much more reasonable!
. F, A, P, C, D, J, Z, Y . 100% of miles flown .(the rest either give you70% now or 50%) Btw, what is a TA? Sorry or the noob questions |

I haven't found any fares that book into the 100% below, other than the $5000 right on CA. . F, A, P, C, D, J, Z, Y . 100% of miles flown .(the rest either give you70% now or 50%) Btw, what is a TA? Sorry or the noob questions Just a side note, I personally find CA quite generous, their fare that earns 50% are normally so competitive, and similar price with other carrier would normally earn 0%. |

TA means travel agent... Sorry I didn't check AC's earning chart when posting, normally booking classes above K and L earns 100%, this is the case for CA, OZ, A3, NZ, UA and US. It really surprises me how bad AC's earning rate is!! Basically anything in economy will give you less than 100%... Maybe you will need to consider other FFP for these flights? Book into K and credit to A3 for a quick *G may be an option?

But coming back to this September trip, I will just have to stick with AC and SQ, hopefully I can find something less than $1800 with them. |

After much research about A3 and other FFPs and much soul searching I decided to stick with AC. I take a vacation 4 times a year, had no problem qualifying for AC Elite *G before at 35,000. Now since they raised the bar to 50,000 I really have to plan my trips.
