Getting miles for an Expedia booking
I have a question - I booked an Expedia trip from PDX > LHR then CDG > PDX. We leave next weekend (10/15). I initially thought that I was not going to get any frequent flyer miles for this flight because I was not part of any FF programs when I booked, but then I saw I could update my FF # via Expedia. I since signed up for Aeroplan and United MileagePlus and entered those numbers into Expedia. I did not sign up for Swiss Air because I will probably never book directly through them. Also helpful to know - at current I have no miles in either Aeroplan or MileagePlus (just signed up)
My question: Can I put my MileagePlus number in for all three segments since Swiss and Air Canada are in the same alliance as United? I'm thinking if I could, I would do that as I would be most likely to fly United in the future. Yes. You can get miles from AC and LX flights using your UA MP number.
Just make sure the fare class of your ticket accrues miles. |
Worst Case: Enter Frequent flyer at check-in
or Even worse case: After trip request flight miles and submit information online |
Thank you
Excellent - thanks. I think I'll update all segments to use mine and my wife's United numbers. I figure if the fare class isn't valid, there isn't anything I can do at this point since I already booked the tickets.
I very much appreciate the replies - thanks! Dave |

Firstly, I would strongly suggest signing up for Aegean Airlines Miles and Bonus for you (if you don't have an FF account, then you probably aren't a frequent enough flyer to make any other program worthwhile. Even if you only fly enough to get *S, free bags is better than the nothing you would get with Mileage Plus...
Secondly, when updating FF#, always use the booking reference and update the record with the airline, not on expedia.com. For example, you would go to aircanada.com, put in your booking reference, and update your FFN there. It is much more reliable and will cause less headaches in the future. |
Post-trip Update
Thanks again for the posts and suggestions. I did end up using mine and my wife's United Mileage Plus accounts. We never check luggage, so the free bags thing was not very important to us (but thanks PVDtoDEL for the tip). We did get full miles for each segment - both netted exactly 12,546 for the entire trip.
I had to manually add the UA Mileage Plus numbers when using the check-in kiosk for our last leg home, but other than that I think Expedia passed along the info correctly (I was careful to make sure, though). Thanks again! David |
