Star Alliance FF Programs

Hi guys,

#1 - Please pardon my ignorance as I aim to wrap my head around the plethora of FF programs on offer from so many airlines so I'll try to best explain what I'm after.

#2 - My question is what Star Alliance FF program you recommend for myself whom virtually travels for leisure in economy and at as low cost (both sales/discounted fare and full fare) as possible?

#3 - I have plans to fly through SE Asia in February 2012 with Singapore Air before I fly to the U.S. in July 2012 and yet to decide who to fly with. Further from that, I'll be flying frequently on an ongoing basis (approximately every 3 months) back to the U.S. as my partner is currently studying there. Then I am making plans to do a RTW trip in 2013 or '14 depending on what happens.

#4 - I would prefer to use the benefits to earn and burn as opposed to status as I don't think the frequency of my travels even warrants for me to even think about that possibility :P

So any further information to help me decide would be fantastic! If I've left out any other important information then I'd gladly explain as well.

Thanks for your help in advance!
Kan

Theres an unbelievable wealth of info in the *A forum and the individual airline sections, but IMHO, it boils down to this:

- for status, Aegean Air. 3000 mi will get you *G
- for Awards whichever airline you fly most often and/or where you plan to redeem your awards

The key is paying attention to what fare class you are booking and making sure those fares are eligible for miles and will transfer.

No, 3000 miles will get you Star Silver on Aegean, 19000 miles gets Star Gold.

Cheers

Something to watch with Aegean is that 100% miles are not credited towards EQM for all fares

Do any *A flights count towards status with Aegean or do you have to fly codeshared flights?

All *A flights credit to Aegean but not all flights earn full mileage credit- so all US flights earn 100% but not UA/CO for example
