How to Use *G Status and Earn Another

Hi all
As Im keen to keep my *g for 2012, does anyone know if its possible to have 2 fflyer# in a reservation - one to earn miles in eg A3, without any status and my UA *G for pure status but no mileage earning?

Depends on the airline and their reservation system.

I've certainly done that on a recent trip (trip report here), where I had my TG*G status entered in for status purposes, whilst accruing to A3. Appeared correctly on the boarding pass, with my TG*G status printing out alongside my A3 accrual. All miles accrued properly to A3 (though YMMV), and I'm now A3*G as well.

If talking to a reasonably competent agent, ask them to enter in your UA number in the FQTS (Frequent Traveller Status) field, and your A3 number in the FQTV (Frequent Traveller) field.

I've done this successfully with UA, but have had problems doing it with LH. I have had LH agents tell me that if I use LH miles to upgrade a flight, I cannot accrue the miles from that flight to another program. This should not be the case, but if the agent does not know how to do it, you are out of luck.

The best thing to do is use your UA number when you make your reservation so that you improve your chances for upgrades, etc. At check-in switch to your A3 number.

Thanks for the advice - LH seem a bit funny - last year I had 2 tickets -an online purchase and a star europe airpass - used the flights in conjunction on both tickets to get to tel aviv - agent at SKG chked my bag thru to TLV - the pts from SKG-ATH went to UA as planned but the ATH-TLV pts went to LH - really really weird since all I did was look at the booking on the LH.COM website (since I had purchased both my intercontinental LH ticket and my star europe airpass direct from the LH callcentre in Australia, and the booking showed my UA flyer# as the active #) and my A3 bordpass had my UA # on it
Ill try the first thing and if it seems a bit akward change things at chkin

FQTV field for earning (RDM and EQM), FQTS field for recognising your status.

This is great stuff!

After having read this forum for quite a while now, I dare to ask my own question:

I have some upcoming IC flights and I am wondering which carrier to contact in regard to registering my, soon to be expired SK*G, for status and my new A3 for earning.

I am able to see all reservations at both CO and UA websites, but not on SK (a lot of things can be said about their website..). Should I contact the carrier operating the first leg of each flight, or could a rep at UA or CO do all at once?

(All flights booked at SK-subsidiary Wideroe to complicate things :) )

Flights:

1: OSL-CPH-ORD-IAH (Metal: SK, SK, UA)
2: IAH-EWR-OSL (Metal: CO, CO)
3: OSL-EWR-IAH (Metal: SK, CO)
4: IAH-EWR-OSL (Metal: CO, SK)

Help is very much appreciated!

The LH system is not capable to handle two different frequent flyer numbers. The only workaround is to swap your number at the gate shortly before boarding.

Welcome to FT, OSLJW! I would contact the carrier who made the reservation for you. Just be prepared that having two FF numbers might not always work.

Thx DownUnderFlyer
Ill keep that in mind -so basically I keep my United# in for status and at the gate change to A3#? -since my next RTW is likely with LH again (or maybe Swiss since they have now included domestic QF connections to the various Star Carriers into/outof AU!!!!)

AFAIK the LH fare also has QF connections. But there is always a risk that the change doesn't go to plan. But then again, if you fly C anyway there is not much point having your UA number in the booking anyway. I would just put A3 in and leave it there.

Thx DownUnderFlyer
Gate option change sounds best - unless Im flying though FRA and have one of those hideous transfers where all I get time to do is a quick shower a cigarette and a coffee ! But seriously if I put the A3 # in booking, can I stil lshow my Ua *G card for the extra baggage? For me this is the most important benefit of *G, and I need three bags at 32kg each back to AU!
Also the LH fare certainly has international QF connections to LH intercontinental hubs, but as far as i can see on rules via KVS tool only the LX fare now includes free QF domestic flights to connect to a Star carrier in another AU city - interestingly a stop at another AU port counts as a stopover - this would be great if it was incorporated into the LH fares from AU

This happened to me once; bp showed M+ number but the flights were credited to M&M. I submitted the flight to M+ for retroactive credit and ended up getting the miles credited in both programs! You might want to try it if it isn't too late.

Yes I tried - the miles went to LH Miles and More - only noted this after i contacted United who investigated and told me miles had gonne to another program - I never really use my Miles and More account
:(
