I guess they do have a market..as they are in no hurry to improve their product in C. (i mean the seat). LX C/F ..i have never flown them. However, seems to get great reviews ..and you have experience with that. |

Another thing I'd suggest is US - they're trying to improve their (outdated) reputation, so they haven't screwed their elites quite as much as the competition. Also, their new Envoy Suites product is reportedly fantastic. |

Asiana Club you do have to fly 40k miles before you get * Gold status and than 40k miles for every 24months to maintain *Gold status. You would be able to use Biz check in, priority luggage and lounge + 1 guest. The downside is the miles burn ratio when you are trying to redeem award travels. 500k gets you lifetime *Gold Hope my humble recommendation helps.. I was once SQGold.. they get treated the same as Asiana*Gold. SQ Gold / 50k a year.. |

If that doesn't work out, then 9W is (sadly) your best bet it seems. Also, is there any way that you can pay your company the fare difference and book in the more expensive fare class? Or could you hold off on booking until the day before? :D Company would not pay the fare difference since we need to book thru a corp agent website and can book fares shown there.. I tried to do a dummy booking giving the next day's flight and returning the folloing day and TG still showed the cheapest class and fare , so I guess this will also be a hit or miss.. |

I'm new to FT, but it seems like a gold mine of information! I'd really appreciate advice on which progamme would be best for us. I also wanted to ask whether it is worth joining BMI Diamond because they seem to allow you to have family miles? Usually when I travel it is with my partner, and I think it would take us some time to independently get enough miles to qualify for free flights. One more thing to add is that over the coming month I will be travelling the following route with my partner, mostly on Air New Zealand: LHR-LAX-PPT-AKL(-WLG-CHC-ZQN-AKL)-HKG-LHR I think that equates to quite a few miles, but as we have got some quite cheap seats I don't know whether it will actually add up to many air miles. I dont know the new rules yet..as it is leaving Star Alliance. For 20K miles, Aegean Airlines is your only option. For Air New Zealand, the cheapest fares do not earn any miles on any program, ...so, if you find the fare-class you booked, compare it with the earning classes on Aegeans website. Then compare with Air NZ website as well. Perhaps you might get some miles if you credit to Air NZ. |
Thanks for the speedy reply! I've had a look at those programmes, and it seems that our flights won't earn many miles at all with them. Would we still be eligible with any *A programme to earn segments or status points that aren't miles? Sorry if I'm completely wrong on the terminology here! With Air New Zealand we would earn about 400 status points for our travels over the coming month, which is just below the amount necessary for silver status.

I was wondering if you could help me work out which Star Alliance to join. I have filled out the info that most people give, however my situation is a little different. As I live in Australia, Star Alliance is not possible for domestic travel so I am Qantas Gold. However, I am just about to embark on the following journHong ey in July. What I am aiming for is to get enough points to get a ticket from brisbane to new zealand, even if its one way. The RTW journey has some 1 qantas flight from SYD to Hong Kong which obviusly won't get me Star Alliance points but the rest is: Hong Kong to Zurich on Swiss Geneva to New York on Swiss JFK to Sydney on United ( one flight number 819 via SFO) I also have two internal flights with Air Canada - Boston to Quebec City and Toronto to Chicago. Standard Info: (1) What is your home airport? Brisbane (2) What types of fares do you usually buy? Cheapest economy or business airfare I can find. (3) How many miles do you usually fly each year? For free domestic US upgrades, 25K miles per year is highly unlikely to get you anything in any US based airline. |
