Star Gold Lounge Madrid

I have Star Gold status through UNITED and I will be traveling to/from Madrid in early September on US Airways. I know that we are entitled to use Star Gold lounges on the day of travel (even if in economy), but I noticed that the Star Gold lounge in Madrid is located in a different terminal from US Airways. Does anyone that has traveled through the Madrid Airport have any information on using this lounge? Will I be able to access the lounge even though it is in a different terminal? I plan on arriving at the airport 4 hours before my flight back to the USA, from another connecting flight, and I would like to use the lounge if possible.

Thanks!

I could be wrong but I believe T1, T2 and T3 are connected airside. Moving walkways and all. If so, you will be able to get to the Spanair lounge in T2. As I've only ever arrived at MAD but never departed, I can't offer anything more concrete but certainly others have and will hopefully post.

I had a flight on US out of MAD during the volcanic ash mess. The flight is out of Terminal 1. I believe that Terminal 2 is also attached airside but it might be a bit of a haul for some. As a Star Gold I was able to use a contract lounge between security and the gate area. Despite the very busy airport the lounge was nice and well equipped (I was just glad to get home). Do note that You will have to go through another step to get to where the US flights depart from. There were reps from different airlines in different cues checking tickets. I got to the checkpoint from the lounge about 50 minutes before departure and nobody was there for US yet.

T1/2/3 are interconnected (both landside and airside). You will check-in for a US Airways flight at T1 (check-in is handled by IB, they have no clue about *A rules, but there should be a US rep around).

You will clear security and then TURN LEFT (yes after clearing security) and go all the way to T2 (5-10 minute walk) - JK lounge will be there (upstairs). On the way back you will have to clear passport and another security controls, so leave the lounge at least 50 minutes prior to ETD.

Thanks for all your helpful feedback! Glad to see that I will have somewhere to chill for a couple hours.

Slightly different Q RE: Madrid airport lounge

This is my first post to FT -- so please forgive me if I'm posting in the wrong place. (Advice appreciated.)

I have a related concern with slightly different questions:

We are arriving in MAD from PHX via PHL in US Envoy (and I'm *A GOLD) -- but then we must transfer to a one-hour coach flight to SCQ on Iberia. We have a 4-hour layover after those two long US flights and hope to be able to freshen up prior to the IB flight (after which we have a long drive to our destination in Galicia).

--> I've read that we can use the Spanair departure lounge on our return flight from MAD to PHL--but is there an ARRIVALS lounge we could use between our transatlanatic US flight and domestic Iberia flight? (We couldn't wait for the late-night Spanair flight, which would have been simpler and probably free if tacked onto our US ticket....)

--> I imagine we'll have to pick up our checked luggage and re-check it to IB, as they're not *A...? Can we use the airport shuttle or taxi? (US seems to arrive into T-1, Spanair seems to be in T-2, and IB is at T4.)

Thanks for any advice. I realize with customs and luggage pick-up and re-check-in and getting around to the different terminals, the whole thing might be moot time-wise -- so we might just have to grab a quick coffee at an airport restaurant and splash some water on our faces in the public rest rooms. ;)

Great to be joining this excellent site! (I'm a longtime poster on Cruise Critic.)

Welcome to FT DrFUN ! Hope you enjoy the site and contribute much.

I really dont think there is a Star Gold arrivals facility in MAD.

When are you doing this flight?
At PHL, you will get to use the Envoy lounge (which is apparently the best US lounge...but no showers AFAIK).
When you are in the Envoy lounge, ask the lounge folks about arrival facilities for Envoy pax in MAD. They will be the best people who know.

Hopefully someone else might post an answer here pretty soon (before you fly!).

Also, IB is in T4 as you noted. You will have to take a shuttle bus ride to T4 (free).

You have posted this is the right forum!

I am sitting in the contract lounge for US Airways in MAD. It is by gate B21. It is not very impressive. No free wifi, no substantial food. I landed right next to the Spanair lounge from LPA but the agent told me there was a VIP lounge in Terminal 1 - there is it is not very good!

The walk from Terminal 1 to the Spanair lounge is about 15mins. You do not need to go through security but you do need to go through passport control.

I have a flight from PHL - MAD in Envoy, then on to BCN in coach - USAir booked the mad-bcn leg as a Spanair flight but looking at Spanair's website it is a code share with Air Europa. I am only sliver but have a club membership (paid). Wondering what lounge I can use in Madrid. I arrive in T1 and depart in T2 with a 4 hour layover. I've been trying to find a shower, but looks like only in the "satellite" terminal and have no idea what access is needed.

Any advise?

cedric Jan 10, 2011 12:38 pm

Club membership will give you access to JK's lounge in T2 only if flying a Star Alliance carrier. However, since it is a JK coded flight and a JK lounge, they may let you in anyway. YMMV.

SirJman Jan 13, 2012 12:51 am

Is that the only *G lounge in all of MAD?

cedric Jan 13, 2012 5:16 am

Yes, the JK lounge is the only Star Lounge.

I assume the JK lounge is now closed. Is there any alternative for T1 at Madrid?

Moving this thread to the Star Alliance forum, where it is more appropriate.
