Interlining *A baggage on two carriers, two PNRs
Hi there
Is it possible to interline baggage from AC to UA and vice versa? Am planning something like LHR-YHZ-YUL-BOS /AC [stopover for <24 hours] BOS-LGA-IAD-GRU-RIO /UA RIO-MIA-IAD-BOS / UA [stopover for < 24 hours] BOS-YUL-YOW-LHR / AC Is there any way that I can check in my bags in London all the way to Rio? (The flights are on separate PNRs, one for AC and one for UA). If so, I am looking forward to seeing the baggage tag... LHR*G |
Not only would I not like to check them all the way, customs clearances make it
necessary for you to lay your hands on the bags anyway, so it would not be necessary. You will have to clear Canadian customs in YHZ, and pre-clear USA customs in YUL, so you may as well check the bags only from LHR to YHZ, then again from YHZ to YUL. You can try to check it from YUL all the way, but if you have enough time to claim and recheck in IAD, I would do so just so that you start the claims process if they do not get that far; and you can be re-assured that they most likely will accompany you to South America if you have re-checked them in IAD. On the way back, you will again have to clear USA customs in MIA, so may as well check them until there on the first leg. You will also have to clear Canadian customs in YUL, so I would try to check them from MIA until YUL, then from YUL through to LHR. |
I had this exact issue in June. I went PIT-EWR-LHR-DEL
PIT-EWR-LHR being on CO and LHR-DEL being on BA On the way there, I had no problem initiating the interline transfer. The CO agents in PIT checked the bags the whole way to DEL. No need to reclaim them in LHR. On the way home, the DEL CO agents refused to do an interline transfer to BA. So, I had to claim the bags in LHR, go through customs, and recheck them at CO for the way home. It was a hassle! |
Baggage Interlining SQ/CA: PEK - HKG - SIN
Hi everybody,
quick question regarding interlining and two PNRs: I currently have an award booking HKG - SIN (SQ with USAir Miles). Since I am travelling within China before, I have to book an intra-china award ticket PEK - HKG (on CA also with USAir Miles), obviously on a different PNR - currently I have two options on that date: 1) take an early flight with 5 hours layover in HKG 2) take a later flight with only 2 hours layover Of course I would prefer Option 2 if baggage interlining is possible for a routing PEK - HKG - SIN on CA/SQ. Otherwise I would think two hours is not enough time? To all the China / HKG experts, would you do 1) or 2)? Many thanks for any help, Primetime |
2 hours in HKG is plenty for immigration, getting the luggage and rechecking. HKG is a pretty well organized airport with not too much walking. SQ check in is just one floor above from where you get out of customs.
The problem is: The PEK have a high likelihood of being canceled or late. Just check the HK airport website for random days. And with two different tickets SQ has no obligation to take you on a later flight. |

LHR*G Just as ILuvSQ said, check your first sector from LHR-YHZ-YUL, as you'll need to go thru Canadian customs. Then just put your bag back on the belt for the leg to Montreal. In Montreal, recheck it to BOS. In BOS, then recheck it all the way to RIO. I hope you have a good travel insurance! One flight runs late and your bag will go AWOL. |
General Question:
Does anyone know where to find a current list of interline agreements? Specific Question: United Award ticket BOS-FRA-BKK on LH and TG followed by a paid ticket on 9W BKK-BOM. Can we check the bag from BOS-BOM? The scheduled layover in BKK is 2 hours 15 minutes. On the Jet Airways (9W) web site, they say they have interline agreements with 64 carriers for "carriage of cargo", but they don't say who they are. |
TK to AC: baggage checked through?
I hold two reservations, one IST-PEK on TK, the other PEK-MEL on CA. Can I check my bags from IST through to MEL? The layover in PEK is 1:45 hours, whih meets the minimum connection time. Will I or won't I have to touch my bags at PEK? Thank you, ps

AC-CA: Interlining Through PEK
I'm flying from YYZ to NKG. Normally I'd fly into PVG and then hop the express train home but I'll be bringing back nearly the max baggage allowed as an AC Elite so I'm opting for flying into PEK and then flying on a separate ticket into NKG on CA.
Will they be able to check the bags all the way through or will I have to pick them up in PEK? If it's the latter will I incur excess baggage fees or will they be waived as an international connection? |
You can check all the way to NKG

Edit: Yes. Baggage is unable to be checked all the way through as per airchina.com. http://www.airchina.co.uk/en/custome...Q/baggage.html 10. If I am connecting flights on Air China, do I need to pick up my luggage and re-check it? Passengers departing from domestic cities who connect through Beijing to domestic/international/regional flights are not required to pick-up their baggage in Beijing if they have checked their baggage through to the destination. This applies on routes such as SHE-PEK-CAN or SHE-PEK-SFO. Passengers departing from overseas/regional cities who connect through Beijing to international/regional flights are not required to pick-up their baggage in Beijing if they have checked their baggage through to the destination. This applies on routes such as ICN-PEK-ARN or FRA-PEK-HKG. Passengers departing from overseas/regional cities who connect through Beijing to domestic flights are required to pick-up their baggage and have it inspected at Customs. This applies to routes such as JFK-PEK-HET. |
Your bag is checked all the way to destination.
You must pick it up in PEK for customs inspection, then give it back to the airline. Same thing happens when you arrive in USA/Canada - clear customs at first point of arrival. But the bag is usually tagged to destination. Although I do recall last year when flying SHA-KMG-BKK on CA, they would only check the bag as far as KMG, since I had to pass export customs there. |

A bit late for OP, though perhaps still useful for future reference. |
