*A RTW fares comparison
to the mods
since the chart refered to in the "useful reference links" is often not very up to date and searching the *A tool to find out prices in like 50 countries is quite a timeconsuming stunt, would it be possibible to make a "sticky" which will be permanatly updated by contributors to this forum?
it seems that especially new members would appreciate this.....

In late November, I compiled prices for a lot (but not all) locations on all three alliances. Prices are in USD. I haven't heard of any big price changes since. It's in Excel 2007 format here:

That is why the extension says ".xlsx" instead of ".xls".
If you are using Office 2003 or older, your system does not know how to handle these files properly.
Basically it is a zipped XLS file. That is why your machine tries to unzip it.
I recommend searching for a freeware converter software.
Just google for "office 2007 converter" + "insert your operating system here".

thank you, zara...
It is an Excel spreadsheet created with Office 2007/2010 (Windows) or Office 2008 (Mac).

I converted ramolnar's spreadsheet to Excel 2003. Pick it up from my Dropbox: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/346078/rtw27nov09_oldformat.xls

Thanks a lot for this file!
I've had a look at many of the price categories, but I'm having a hard time replicating any of these prices in the book and fly tool of *Alliance.
I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong, but I'm getting 3600EUR all in for a 16 coupon, 28,000 mile RTW (YRWSTAR1) originating in Germany. Is it possible that the prices in the spreadsheet don't contain any taxes or surcharges?
According to the sheet, the Euro+ price should be 3700USD, which should be 2600EUR.
The routing I'm trying to create is the following:
STR-FRA-SIN-BWN-BKK-PVG-NRT-HNL-SFO-ANC-LAX-LAS-ORD-IAD-MUC-STR
If any of you guys have any suggestions, I'd really appreciate it!
Crimson
P.S: I tried routing through Cairo, which came out quite a bit cheaper but still at roughly 3000EUR (900USD more what it should be according to the sheet)

Also, the Star Alliance website mentions that 5 stopovers are permitted on a RTW if travel commences outside the US.
I called up the United 1k line and was told that this "5 stopovers rule" only counts for the contiguous US. Since I'm stopping over in Hawaii and Alaska as well, the Book and Fly program sends me back an error of too many stopovers in the US, and counts the HI and AK stops as well.
Do any of you guys have experience with this situation?

I don't know what to do about the Hawaii / Alaska thing, sorry.
