Wine Tasting in Spain/Logrono

Hi all, I'm visiting in Spain in Aug/Sep. with a friend.

Current itinerary is:
- fly into Bilbao on Aug 23rd then bus/taxi to San Sebastian where we'll stay until the 27th.
- Train to Logrono where we'll stay until the 29th
- Train to Barcelona where we'll stay until Sept 6th

I'd really appreciate suggestions (especially food) for my time in spain, especially since I haven't done a ton of intl. travel before (Okinawa for 2 weeks 6 years ago, North America).

The biggest question i have is the Logrono leg of our journey. We'd love to do some wine tasting, and from what I'm reading Logrono seems like a great place for that. Is there somewhere better between San Sebastian and Barcelona? Should I rent a car, or can I get by on foot/train? What Wineries should I visit?

Also would anyone recommend surf lessons in San Sebastian?

I would definitely rent a car for the wine tasting journey. Rioja is full of wineries and great wines. Without a car, it would be very difficult to enjoy many of them. Haro has a district where you can walk among them and enjoy quite a bit. Still, the countryside is magnificent. There is a great restaurant in the village of Paganos, but sorry, can’t remember the name now.
