City with good nightlife in Northern Spain?
 

I'm going to visit a friend who goes to pilot school in Léon, Spain.
We were thinking of spending a Friday night there and going somewhere else for Saturday night, from where I would fly back on Sunday.

I can fly back from the following airports:

Asturias (OVD)
Bilbao (BIO)
La Coruña (LCG)
Pamplona (PNA)
Santander (SDR)
Santiago de Compostela (SCQ) - but we've been there before
San Sebastian (EAS)
Vigo (VGO)

I'm 31, my friend is 25 and we just want a place with young people (ideally somewhere people speak some English at least as we don't speak Spanish), nice bars etc.
So far I'm inclined to go to Vitoria-Gasteiz and fly out from PNA, but maybe we should go somewhere else instead?

If you are looking for a place with young people, Salamanca is a major university city with numerous bars and clubs. It is only about a two hours (200km) drive from León.

I love the Basque Country, I can't wait to go back. It's a foodie's heaven; I've eaten some of the best meals of my life there. There are great museums and spectacular coastal scenery. I just don't know about the nightlife though, both Bilbao and San Sebastián seemed to be pretty dead when it got close to midnight.

I think both San Sebastian and Santander are great options. Do remember that Spaniards go out later in general: ordinarily you would meet up with friends at 11pm / midnight (after dinner) and thus some bars may appear empty until then.
