Extremadura
Just booked a $500 r/t ticket to Madrid from NY and thought I'd hit up Extremadura, where I've spent very little time. Does anyone have any suggestions of where to go? I spent one night at the parador in Guadalupe years ago, but that's about it. I was planning to visit Cáceres but have heard mixed things about the other cities, with some Spanish people telling me Badajoz is a dump that I should avoid.
Any must-sees or hidden gems that I should check out? Thanks for any and all suggestions! |
Mérida is definitely a must-see.
The tour of the Cinco Jotas facility is probably another good visit. |
We loved Cáceres, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

If you're looking for a totally different activity, check out my recent trip report.
We had a great time visiting Iberico Ham facilities, along with the dehesa to see the black-footed pigs. Also visited the Cave of Wonders in Aracena (not technically in Extremadura), and Plasencia.
