Pousada hopping in Portugal

Surprised this isn't already a thread, figured it was common to tour the country hopping from place to place. For reference here's are lists and maps of the possibilities-

https://www.pousadas.pt/en/directory
http://www.pousadasofportugal.com/pousadas-map/

So here's my question- Which of these are must visits? I plan to have about 4 nights of flexibility with a car and would love to see some of the best ones. We will be starting in Porto and ending in Lisbon, and skipping the Algarve and the southern beaches.

Additional ideas can be found here-

Still up for consideration are stays at Six Senses Douro Valley, Vidago Palace, and Quinta Das Lagrimas.

Any input would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

You'll miss one of the most impressive, in Viana, north of Porto. Evora, Obidos and Vila Vicosa are other charming old properties I've booked friends into. One drawback of these older museum-type hotels is that they attract an awful lot of day-trippers: some stop for coffee or for lunch, but many simply troop through the public areas.

Votes go to Marvao as well.

State owned Pousadas de Portugal was sold off to the Pestana hotel group over ten years ago. The privatisation secured a firm commercial footing for the properties, but many feel the shift in branding and operation has not been an unalloyed success.

Many thanks for the feedback Ian.

Viana is a lock for the first night out of Porto, definitely a must visit. Thinking Canicada for lunch the next day and then somewhere in the Douro Valley the second night. Next down to Obidos and ending at the Cascais Citadela on the way into Lisbon.

And I'm guilty of considering some spots for day tripping lunch stops- Palacio do Freixo and Guimares in addition to Canicada for example, so that's clearly a valid observation.

Evora and Vicosa seem to tie in better with a loop south to the Algarve so will keep them on the list for next time.

Let me know if you have any further thoughts.

Regards.

Following up my own post, decided to change out Cascais Citadela for a non Pousada property. Going to try the Fortaleza do Guincho instead-

And instead of coughing up $600+ for Six Senses Douro, decided to stay down the street at the Delfim Douro. Will plow the savings into a fancy dinner at SS.
