Parc Guell opening
What time does Parc Guell really open? Everywhere I looked, it said 10am. Except for: http://www.parkguell.es/en/informacion which seems to be the official website and that says 8am. I've read in various forums and tripadvisor comments that it's good to go early... so I want to know what's the earliest I can go? If I go between 8 to 10am, do I have to go at the "back" entrance or is the front entrance open at 8am? Where should I tell the taxi to drop me off? Thanks!

I doubt that that is the official website... On the website of the city of Barcelona they also mention 10am.
Strangely enough, I sometimes go there for a walk in the morning. And I'm sure that was always before 10am (with no tourist in sight :)). But I always use one of the side entrances. Maybe they have changed the opening hours? I'll see if I have time for a walk next weekend... :p |

I recommend entering the park at the entrance at the top (sorry don't know the name of the entrance), from here you can walk down hill/down stairs to the main entrance. If you enter from the main entrance you'll be walking uphill/up stairs to see the park.
Do you want to visit Sargrada Familia from inside? If so, check their opening hours and book online to avoid the long lines to enter. Unfortunately, the morning is the best time to visit Park Guell, Sargrada Familia and the Boqueria Market (don't expect all the market stalls to be open in the evening). |
I agree with startpacking, after 4pm there will be nothing to see at La Boqueria. If you want to visit the market, you should go there on Friday morning.
With your list of sites to visit, I would do the following: Thursday: visit Sagrada Familia, then go to Parc Guëll. I don't know if they close before or right after sunset, but I would try to be there as close to closing time as possible. (Don't make it too close, it will get dark sooner than you'd expect because the sun goes down behind the hills behind the city.) Friday morning: go for a walk from the harbour along the Rambla (and La Boqueria), a quick detour through the Barri Gotic, past Plaça Catalunya, up to Passeig de Gracia (try to go at least up to La Pedrera). If you still would like to go to the park in the morning: I use the entrance on top of "Baixada de la Glòria". (There are escalators to bring you up there from Avenida de Vallcarca.) And yes, I have entered there before the official opening time (but don't remember what time that was), but I can't guarantee that the gate will always be open of course. |
