I was able to connect pretty easily. You do have to enter in your first/last name and your RR number.

My 2 friends and I were excited to use wifi and the flight attendant asked us how everything went at the end. We told her it worked well. It would be nice if this was free going forward but even at like $10 or something it's not too bad.

Does it give people without a RR the option to sign up?

Or in my case - the option to retrieve it since i can never remember what it is

Isn't your RR # on your boarding pass?

You don't have your boarding pass when you are on the plane logging in.

However, I suspect that the RR number is only needed during this free testing period.

You can if you want. Just tear off the stub and keep it with you or print two BPs if you print them at home.

I keep my RR# on my computer so it wouldn't be difficult to find for a log in.

I don't think it works without your first name, last name, and RR. I don't know if it's just for the test phase, etc.

Luckily my 2 friends and I all had our info with us. I had my A-List card in my pocket.

I didn't check to see if you can go to southwest.com because if you can go there, maybe you have it saved on your browser or something.

I actually have mixed feelings about this feature. For me I really like the relative peace and quiet of a flight because it's one of the few moments in the day when I am away from my computer and away from my phone.

I have one of those jobs where I'm basically on call 24/7 so I get periodic phone calls that wake me up at night, etc. I am also on a blackberry so I am expected to answer email messages very quickly all throughout the day. Even if I don't get a call or an email for a few hours, it's still a little annoying because I know that it might happen.

An airplane flight is really the only time that everyone around me knows that I cannot be reached.

But I suppose having the option is better than not having the option. I just know that I'll have requests like "contact us via IM as soon as you're back online again on the plane", etc.

Just got an email that I am on a WiFi flight tomorrow. I have two flights so I am not sure which it will be, either:

2805 PHX - SAN
or
0776 SAN - PHX

Posting this from flight 2805 somewhere above 10k ft. between Phoenix and San Diego. WiFi works pretty well. I am showing 54 Mbps, so about what speed you might expect at home.

My office VPN is a bit sluggish, but that may be because of our office network.

Otherwise, all is working well!

Cool!

The 54Mbps might be the bandwidth from your laptop to the router on the plane...the speed getting on the 'net might be lower.

Was onboard a wifi enabled flight. Tested with both laptop and iPhone and both worked without a problem. Also 'tested' a skype like call and it worked, just had latency like one would have with a sat phone.

Good Speed, but not much room to work. If I had to pay I would not use the laptop unless I had the seat next to me open. Would hope they do like AA and have a Mobile Phone rate since I can do a good amount of email on phone.
