Progress in WesJet Codeshare at LAS?
It was announced that WestJet will be moving from Terminal 2 to Terminal 1 at LAS, the same as Southwest.
Could this move perhaps be related to the codeshare? Also, does anyone know about the customs situation in Terminal 1? Will arriving flights have to go to Terminal 2? |

I don't know if this is in relation to the code share. However, all flights from Canada to the US are precleared before leaving Canada. (Passengers go through US Immigration and Customs in the Canadian airports.) That way, a flight arriving from Canada is basically a domestic flight at that point. Brian |
I guess that's true for all WestJet flights to LAX, but not for every single cross-border flight out of any Canadian airport. Not all Canadian airports have U.S. customs facilities. Those that do are listed at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_...r_preclearance

Westjet's website indicates they have seasonal non-stop service to LAS from some Canadian airports (Regina, Saskatoon, Kelowna, Victoria) that do not have pre-clearance. Will Westjet eventually change to the "C" gates at McCarran; I would expect so.
Thread drift: I remember taking flights in the 70's from YUL to ORD on European carriers who had 5th freedom rights at that time. Those flights did not have U.S. pre-clearance in Montreal; all pax arrived as international arrivals at O'Hare. (Logical - the pax originating in Europe did not have U.S. pre-clearance.) I believe my first ever 747 flight was on AF between YUL-ORD; I also recall taking flights on BOAC and SAS between YUL-ORD. |
