Indeed, but not at all what I expected:

We are currently accepting air reservations through August 5, 2019. On February 7, 2019 we will open our schedule for sale through September 2, 2019. This date is subject to change! Please check back frequently.
August is open now, that's good. But four more months just to extend the schedule another month? Must be a typo, I would think.

FEB 7 is less than 3 months from now, but the 3-for-1 tradeoff could be due to Hawaii

Correct. It will separate for Hawaii announced, but not on the schedule extension.

In case you missed it, Southwest opened a new schedule before February 7th and went longer than Sept 2.

We are currently accepting air reservations through October 1, 2019. On March 13, 2019 we will open our schedule for sale through November 2, 2019. This date is subject to change! Please check back frequently.

Are you implying that the airline had some small logistical emergencies that they had to focus on?

IMO, they should push back Hawaii and free those 800's to pick up the MAX slack.

I’m sure we will not see a schedule extension until the grounding of the max 8 is lifted. Wouldn’t be appropriate and they can’t operate a schedule without planes anyway...

They're currently booking through October 1, so this extension was basically for the month of October. Are they still expecting the MAX to be grounded by then?

The scheduling staff has their hands full right now, that's all.

And booking. Phone lines always have increased traffic the first day(s) of a new release, and they absolutely do not need that right now.
