Schedule open to August 14, 2009

The schedule opened through August 14, 2009 this morning, at about 10:17 AM Central time, as reported by FT member ftnoob. This extension was originally planned for last Thursday but last week it was delayed until Monday.

Book your summer award travel now, because some flights will only have a few seats now and no more later.

For future schedule extensions, look at http://www.southwest.com/travel_center/ right under the Travel Tools header.

Schedule now open through 10/30/2009

The schedule opened through October 30, 2009 this morning at an earlier than usual 7:25 AM Central time, as noted by our friend LoneStarMike. This extension was originally planned for last Tuesday, but was pushed back until today.

In concert with the schedule opening, Southwest this morning announced that it will begin service to Boston Logan on August 16 with five daily roundtrips each between Chicago Midway and Baltimore:

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/south...s-mdw-bwi.html

Other news:

Southwest also announced recently that it will begin service to LaGuardia Airport on June 28, also with service to Chicago Midway (five flights) and Baltimore (three flights):

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/south...ga-routes.html

Our friend FCfree was a winner of Southwest's "Are You Smarter Than A Schedule Planner?" blog contest (http://www.blogsouthwest.com/blog/ar...hedule-planner) and shared a trip report:

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/south...r-like-me.html

In that thread, our friend SWABrian let slip that he and SWAVictor (also our friend!) are investigating possibly hosting a DO or two this year:

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/south...l#post11503601

Southwest has launched email Customer Service, so now you can save your nickel or 42 cent stamp:

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/south...r-service.html

Image posting has been enabled in our forum. Go nuts!

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/south...ages-here.html

The move to the new ticketing system has begun in earnest. Our friend ftnoob shares the following:
As casually announced by SWAVictor on April 9, 2009 (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/11554835-post9.html), "all new tickets are now being issued in the new [ticketing] system." This months-long project brings several changes of potential interest to SWA customers, such as:

Depending on the circumstances, most of the above changes can be viewed as either positive or negative!

Note that there is an ongoing transition phase because existing reservations made in the old system will remain "old system" tickets until used, canceled, or reticketed. New system tickets are distinguished by the appearance of the acronym ICBM in the confirmation Email. In this case (thankfully) ICBM stands for nothing more ominous than "Internet Core Booking Module."

Schedule now open through January 8, 2010

The schedule opened through January 8, 2010 earlier than usual (again) this morning at about 9:05 AM Central time, as noted by Mary Louise.

With this opening Southwest revealed that its service to Milwaukee (MKE) will begin November 1, though newsmanhoss beat them to the punch. Reading FlyerTalk is like getting the newspaper early:

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/south...-schedule.html

Yesterday Southwest announced that it will begin testing pricing tomorrow for its inflight Wi-Fi service. The proposed price range is $2 to $12 depending on flight length and device type. What do you think? Share your thoughts in our thread or on SWA's blog:

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/south...972-wi-fi.html

http://www.blogsouthwest.com/blog/inflight-wi-fi-update

Service to LaGuardia (LGA) begins this Sunday, June 28. Service to Boston Logan (BOS) begins August 16.

Southwest's Automated Outbound Messaging is the process of being rolled out systemwide:

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/south...-call-new.html

You can now opt for a call back from Southwest CS&S instead of waiting on hold thanks to the deployment of Virtual Hold:

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/south...tual-hold.html

May 4 brought the debut of Southwest's new coffee offering, LIFT. Have you tried it?

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/south...ood-stuff.html

Last, but not least, dwebb had the opportunity to interview Gary Kelly last week at the AAAE Conference and Exposition in Philadelphia. Have a listen:

Schedule now open through March 12, 2010

The schedule opened through March 12, 2010 at about 9:30 AM Central Time this morning. The next extension is planned on October 13, for travel through May 7, 2010.

Other news in brief:

Apparently the onset of Rapid Rewards 2.0 is still about a year away. I'd give you a link, but that post has been edited so the report no longer exists.

Southwest has decided to install Wi-Fi systemwide. Pricing has not been decided, but the installation will take quite a while anyhow.

Service to Boston began on August 16. Milwaukee is still scheduled to begin on November 1.

The new ticketing user interface is being rolled out, so sometimes you get the new one, sometimes the old one. The revision of back end software on ticketless funds re-use has been completed, making re-use of funds better in some ways. However the new system's preference for whole tickets rather than TTFs (ticketless travel funds) tends to create more and more small TTFs that become quite difficult to use. They don't add up to enough to buy a ticket, so you have to throw a whole ticket into the mix. Then the system uses the whole ticket and leaves your TTFs unused, adding yet another small TTF.

We're FT'ers, so we can deal with complexity. I'll post something on how to deal with funds re-use, but it's not going to be pretty.

Schedule now open through May 7, 2010

The schedule opened through May 7, 2010 at about 9:25 AM Central Time this morning.

Other news in brief:

On September 2, Southwest began offering Early Bird Check-In, checking you in automatically right behind the A-listers and Business Select, for a $10 fee. This change provoked extensive discussion on the forum: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/south...ay-travel.html

Service to Milwaukee begins on November 1: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/south...-1-2009-a.html

Double credit (one extra credit each way) is available for flights through October 31 if you booked on or after September 17: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/south...-oct-31-a.html

Other airlines are bumping up holiday fares and calling it a fee. Southwest is not following suit: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/south...w-fee-not.html

As promised, I posted an explanation of how to deal with the new ticketing system's preference for whole tickets rather than TTFs (ticketless travel funds): http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/south...?highlight=TTF
