Jacksonville airport code?

The airport code lookup section on this forum isn't working.

What is the code for the Jacksonville International Airport. Airline sites like SW list it as JAX but the airport website seems to use JIA. There only seems to be one airport that is used by commercial airlines. I'm confused, I didn't think airports could have 2 codes.

The FT airport code lookup is working for me. JAX is the correct code for Jacksonville. JIA is Juina, Brazil.

Looks like they're another victim of the "we must call it "International" at all costs" syndrome - even if it ends up confusing their patrons. :td:

Marketing sure is easier than actually attracting a wide range of flights.

It's JAX

I live in and fly out of Jacksonville -- the airport code is JAX. The "official" name of our airport is Jacksonville International Airport -- hence the "JIA" references you have seen...coming in for Super Bowl????

Thanks for the replies. The airport insists on calling itself JIA

Since I recently got infected with some nasty malware I've changed some security settings, prehaps that's why the airport code finder didn't work for me.

I find Kansas City to be especially confusing, since they are MCI, but insist on calling themselves KCI.

P.S. Welcome to FT, Paul G.

To make it more confusing, the "other" Jacksonville airport is OAJ for Jacksonville, NC. (I know Southwest doesn't fly there, but I booked a ticket to there the other day and had to look it up.)

I was just at MCI and noticed all the KCI signs. At first I was thinking the KCI signs were directing me to the downtown airport.

Speaking of JAX and SWA, how is SWA doing there? Someone asked me if I had heard a rumor that they were going to be leaving Jax. I did a search here and didn't see anything, but thought I'd ask those of you who frequent this forum.

SWA very rarely reports the performance of individual stations...that is the kind of info only a station manager, regional director and above would be privvy to. My experience working through the station is that JAX seems to be doing fine. Loads are typically in line with systemwide 65-70% average LF. Look at it this way...PHL has been the most successful new station in SWA history....every SWA station wants a Philly non-stop...JAX has one. They must be doing something right. My guess is you would see PBI go long before JAX.

Just FYI...SWA has only pulled out of 4 markets in almost 34 years of operation. DEN(Stapleton), DET(Detroit City), BPT(Beaumont/Port Arthur, TX), and SFO. SWA left IAH briefly but eventually returned.

SWA is also the "official" airline of the Super Bowl that is here in Jax next month. So they're here for at least that long ;) As 90% of my travel is JAX-PHL-JAX on US, and SWA is my only non-stop alternative, a pull-out would be a major drag if US folds. US flies 3 per day in both directions, so if I had to guess, I'd say that SWA is more likely to increase its presence in JAX if (when) US goes away.

Try finding a seat on that flight from PHL-JAX-PHL on February 5th and returning on February 7th

Can't be done.

Go Eagles !

Jimbo :)

I booked my Feb 7 JAX-PHL months ago -- ought to be an interesting day at our little airport! JAX is doubling screening capacity by using the airport National Guard Armory for excess outbound throughput.

Thanks for the responses to my question above!

I've also heard that the security area has been redone, should be interesting during Superbowl.

My company is flying our guests into MCO (and staying in MCO) to
1) avoid the hassle
2) stay at a nice hotel (the nice hotels in Jax were sold out)
