Watch Sacramento airport (SMF) become the pariah as more and more residential housing is being built to the north of the city and toward the runways.

Interesting data point:
I have a peak-time flight for Thanksgiving weekend out of SNA --- and the web site shows no flight/ticket availability for that day. But I was still able to add Companions to our two existing tickets for that day.
So there is technically seat availability -- but you just can't book/buy regular ones via the usual means.
I'm wondering if they'll "release" more seats as we get closer to the dates at all.

"It's a $10,000 fine and we're going to pay it" (flight was scheduled for an early time boarded and left late.)
Don't know if the "wich people" get a cut of the fine, or the airport board just keeps it.

Clearly need to limit their economy
Thankfully with the homeless population up things are much better balanced. Seriously though, if they wanted the airport to see reduced demand, start shutting down businesses and stop issuing business permits. Then that pesky problem of too many people getting on planes will be solved.

We spent some time walking around Balboa Island on Saturday. And a plane took off over our heads just about every 60 seconds. I can understand the locals getting tired of that. And I'm guessing it's worse in Newport Beach, where the planes are lower.
I have a friend at a conference at the Hyatt Regency there later this week who I am warning to bring earplugs.
I know, I know, the airport was there when folks moved in. I get it. But I also understand why the constant noise stinks. I don't get how a 70% full plane is much improvement over a 100% full plane, though

Data point for Thursday, 11/16/23:
Walkup fare FLL-SNA? As much as $733, most around $500.
Walkup fare FLL-LGB? Hovered around $195.
It's ~30/40 mins up the road, and the price differential (~100 to the SFBA, ~150-200 to PDX/MKE where I also have to be soon) will pay for a lot of gas and Ubers so I'm ex-LGB until this bushlitt is over. They even have CLEAR there (vs. SNA inexplicably) but on the downside like BUR it's all jetstairs and outdoor bag claim and it's about to be the rainy season here in SoCal.

No wonder Southwest doesn't offer free same-day changes to co-terminal airports. Those fare differences are extreme. Similarly, walk-up fares ex-OAK are often 2x the fares ex-SFO.

Yeah, but I'm certain this particular example is 'cause they're trying to keep people out of SNA; BUR/LAX/ONT were within 50-75(? IIRC) of LGB (but higher and less convenient to me). That last $59 sale even explicitly fine-printed SNA out of it until 1/5 (which I thought was due to Disneyland travel until I'd remembered this thread).
