Southwest Summer Digital Enhancements
Howdy Southwest FlyerTalkers! SWA Mark here and wanted to let you know that your Southwest team has been hard at work improving your Southwest digital experience. We didn't let this hot Texas summer slow us down!
Here’s a few enhancements we’ve added recently for you:
Same-day standby self-service listing: Now you can use our improved standby policy and list for alternative eligible flights directly in the app (1). From there, you can watch the standby list status. Giving you more flexibility and more options while you travel. Learn more

Digital Self-Service Standby Listing
Digital Add Standard Bags: If you’re flying from Dallas or Jacksonville, you can try out our new Digital Add Bags feature. This allows customers to add up to 2 standard bags for each eligible customer right in the app, speeding up time in the lobby as your bag preferences will already be there when you scan at the kiosk, and helping educate new customers on how to best use our self-tagging kiosks. We are continuing to monitor this feature and will work to ramp it up across the system soon.

Nearby Airport Shopping: You can now shop for flights across nearby airports through the Southwest app and mobile website. Our awesome Cohearts are working to bring this feature soon to our desktop website. Stay tuned!

Improved Password Resets: The Password Reset feature is much improved with a fresh new mobile-friendly design making it even easier to use if you forget that password from years ago.

Free Inflight Internet for Business Select: The new free Inflight Internet benefit for Business Select is live (2)! We’ve updated all fare purchase experiences and fare upgrade offers to include information about this enhanced benefit. Once onboard, use the options to look up your account or trip to activate this great new feature. As of today, over 90% of our fleet has been upgraded with new WiFi hardware too with a goal to complete upgrades by this fall. Learn more.

Price Points on Route Map: The route map now has price points showing you the lowest fare in our open schedule as you browse through trip combinations. We’re looking to add even more capabilities too!
Destination Switching: We’ve added the Destination Switcheroo button to the desktop booking widgets. These let you quickly switch your origin and destination. You can also find this in our app.
Improved ALP Inflight Internet Signup: If you have earned A-List Preferred, signing into the Inflight Digital Experience is now easier to add free Inflight Internet for ALP (2). The mobile-friendly sign-in and password autofill make it a breeze, and we’ve moved the link up to help you find it quickly.
Upcoming Trip Widgets: These widgets are now available on the iOS Southwest app. Keep an eye on your trip and easily access it directly from a widget on your homepage. Our team is excited to learn how customers interact with this on iOS, then we will explore adding this to Android.
Overnight Connection Indicators: In select markets we now offer overnight connections which expand our itinerary options to help you get where you really want to go. We’ve added emphasis to these trips so customers are aware there may be limited airport services during the overnight connection.
Improved App Homepage Information: We’ve revised the app homepage imagery with better creative and easier-to-use buttons. You’d be surprised how much impact a button vs. a text link makes!
Improved Tier Qualification Emails: we’re working to improve the usability of all our emails. When you achieve that great moment of tier status, now the email is much easier to use on a mobile device.

- Android inflight movie playback issues have been resolved
- Sporadic errors when shopping for trips in the app have been cleared up
- New payment management options in the next phase of Mobile Friendly My Account - we hope to have all account features fully mobile friendly by Q1 of next year
- Bag Tracking in the App
- Parking Spot Reminders in the App
- And lots more!

Nearby airport searching might be amazing for Southern California (Los Angeles area is how they call it), but it is not good news because those lower cost flights from LGB or BUR will no longer be "hidden" and might not price lower due to supply/demand or lack of awareness.
However, the search results are awful as they don't sort by price. So, eh, doesn't solve the actual need.

Nearby airport searching might be amazing for Southern California (Los Angeles area is how they call it), but it is not good news because those lower cost flights from LGB or BUR will no longer be "hidden" and might not price lower due to supply/demand or lack of awareness.
However, the search results are awful as they don't sort by price. So, eh, doesn't solve the actual need.
