Woman tracks down her own bag after WN misplaces it and "refuses" to help at MCI

Amazing story of self help and use of Airtags, IMO.

I hope the WN refusal isn't true and would have eventually worked out.

"She says when she went to file a claim with the airline, a Southwest employee told her that it was hopelessly lost and could not be recovered."

Not buying it; she lands at Nashville and immediately an employee tells her it's lost forever???

Definitely more sides to this story. There is not a soul in Kansas / Missouri that wouldn't be willing to help...

I guess she's summarizing multiple discussions with that one statement. Unlikely they immediately said it's lost ... but entirely possible they said that in a later discussion.

Is this really so hard to believe, though?

I had a similar issue with AA. My airtags showed my bags were in Miami instead of Tampa. I could see exactly which building they were in. I must have called AA baggage 10x - they were the most useless group of humans I've ever talked to. I finally drove to Miami, where the baggage desk said they could only file a claim with me. I showed them my airtag location and absolutely refused to move until they did something about it. Magically, my bags showed up at the desk in 20 mins.

Baggage recovery resources at many airlines are deplorable. Unhelpful. Unempoowered.

Do bags get lost? Of course, all the time, has happened to all of us

Does an apple airtag show location? Of course it does

Would this big bag, still sitting at the departure airport with an airline luggage tag and the owner's own ID/Name tag on the bag (assume she had one), get back to the owner anyway, without the airtag? Of course it would have

Quite the interesting story.

All those bags, and nobody seems to care. All those insurance claims could be avoided with a handful of staff.

Just curious, what are your beliefs about Santa Claus, the tooth fairy and the Easter bunny?

I feel like we're missing part of the story.

A single nonstop flight isn't a likely place for a bag to get "lost forever". It's in Kansas City. Or it's in Nashville. It didn't get ejected out of the airplane in St. Louis.

I don't know if the traveler is BSing or Southwest really screwed up, but something doesn't add up. And I'm not watching Tiktok to find out.

That's a great story. I see a movie coming from it. Searching for grandma's jewelry...

Obviously, someone's done the math and economics in the long run. At some point, its cheaper to pay some claims (net of denials, those who won't bother chasing followups and even starting the process to begin with) and sell/liquidate the cases then spend the labor and resources to investigate and deliver the bags.

Economics triumphs over right most every time...

They all aren't dependent on airtags either
