Promo for 50% Flight

Maybe I am a bit slow, this seems a bit complicated.

1. Register then buy a round trip (or two one-way flights) by 8/3
2. Travel by 9/30.
3. Get a 50% off promo code valid 10/17-11/23 for travel 1/8-3/6/24. Blackout dates apply.

More details here:

Lots of steps, dates and deadlines to mess up..Overly complicated. Why?

I registered. I already have a R/T booked in September. Wondering if that will count.

I would not count on it if the programmed logic follows their how to rules:

1. Register then buy a round trip (or two one-way flights) by 8/3

So register and purchase by august 3rd to fly round trip before September 30th, to then receive a promo code to book book another flight October 17-Nov 23rd to travel between January 8 and march 6th 2024: this has to be the dumbest, most confusing promotion Ive ever seen anywhere.

I looked to see if there was a super cheap R/T to spend a couple hours at the PP Lounge at BWI to qualify. There isn't so I'm not even going to give this another thought. I already have CP for next year anyway, so that is like 50% off already.

Interesting from FAQs:

Q: Can I use my promotion code more than once?
A: The single-use 50% off promotion code can only be redeemed once and can be redeemed by anyone.

I am getting the general impression that Southwest is shifting to a high fare but lots of discounts operation.

Think of them as the Michaels craft store of airlines. You can always find a coupon, promotion, or Costco discount to lower that otherwise high fare. You just have to spend some of your valuable time to do so.

If I recall, the time of year that this includes is when they did the Companion pass last year. Is this their follow up to that? I was under the impression that the companion pass deal was an annual thing.

There must be some WN execs who took a course in college on "How to hoodwink your customers into thinking they're gaming you while you game them".

A lot of businesses use this "complicate things until no one understands and they'll pay full price" mentality. I've always found it to be legalized con artistry. Reminds me of a scene from a John Wayne movie, Sons of Katie Elder, where Dean Martin holds a lottery to sell off a glass eye, makes money, then spends a small fraction of it to get the eye back from the winner and ends up with both the eye and the money from everyone in the saloon. Then he takes off his eyepatch to reveal that he has both eyes and never needed the glass one to begin with, and almost everyone laughs, except one guy who realizes they've all been conned.
