Should I have known this re: expiring Travel Funds? (expiration tainting)

Am I understanding this situation correctly?

12/16/19 - Booked LAS to SAN for payment of $64.
1/6/20 - Cancelled LAS to SAN for $64 credit.
2/3/20 - Booked MCO to BHM with additional payment of $61.
2/11/20 - Cancelled MCO to BHM. Total credit now $125.
9/23/20 - Booked MCO to PIT with additional payment of $178.
11/5/20 - Cancelled MCO to PIT. Total credit now $303.

But the entire amount of $303 expires on 12/15/20? i.e. new cash dollars have the same cancellation/expiration date as the original booking?

Many thanks.

Yes. Simply think of it this way. Any credit you have will expire on the day you made the first payment plus one year.

Once Travel Funds are mixed they take on the earliest expiration date.

Yep. Single most customer unfriendly policy, imo. I'm 99% sure there's a decent sized warning about this during checkout, but you are far from the first to dismiss it as worthless boilerplate. If there's no chance of you flying before then, I guess you hope they are willing to give you a LUV voucher for $205 after expiration =/

Every time you cancelled (1/6, 2/11 and 11/5) your total credit kept the EARLIEST expiration date, which was one year from the first booking made on 12/15/19.

Yes. Has always been that way and most people get burned by it.

We call it “tainting” here. You can search it going back forever.
