Southwest can tie four PNRs together and send me one confirmation email but they can’t do the same when they issue BPs. Well, at least we still have A-61 family boarding so we’ll be fine, just a little further back.

Southwest knows the A lister and the companion on a Companion Pass are Linked together, even though they (required) have different PNRs. In fact, you cannot change your reservation without cancelling the CP reservation. I don''t recall, but does the boarding pass indicate there is a companion. Why not just let the person traveling on a CO board with the the A List traveler?

I can confirm that companion and linked minor reservations do not get this newly added benefit. I just checked into a flight and I got A-19, companion (wife) got B-14, and minor reservation (kids) got B-15/16. So it does seem to be that it's only those with the exact same confirmation number as the A-lister get the benefit.

Just checked in for my flight: A18 for me. 3 family members on same PNR A19, A20, A21. Companion: B35. If I don't have split points/$ reservations, this will save me a bunch of early bird fees (since I always get enough early bird for the number of aisles/windows that we'll occupy).

My wife is my CP holder and my kids are always on points, so no benefit at all to me. Sounds like Southwest did a poor job thinking through how to give a benefit to their most loyal customers!

Chiming in if Southwest is monitoring this thread - ridiculous that companion pass holders are excluded from this benefit.

This seems to be something that sounds good when announced, but that actually doesn't provide all that much for all that many people. Ultimately, to me, it just seems odd.

I appreciate this unforseen change. Cross country flight tomorrow with my non-A list wife and we have A-20 and A-21.

I have A16 on a flight tomorrow.

My wife/companion is A34 at T-24 hour check in.

Clearly there is no change to the companion pass check in system.

Both paid with bump vouchers. Lost CP as we entered 2020.

A-list boarding

Had to book last minute ticket. Daughter and I got c14/c15

i can board between A and B as my hoarding pass designates A-List preserves, however, hers does not have that designation. Gate agent asked if we are on same reservation, I said yes and he said we were good

Out of curiosity, were you actually on the same reservation/PNR?

Well he said "last minute ticket" so presumably within T-24 which explains the crappy boarding position.
