DALLAS, Feb. 24, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- Southwest Airlines Co. (NYSE: LUV) today announced an intention to serve Steamboat Springs, Colo. through Yampa Valley Regional Airport (HDN). Interesting. I was wondering when WN was going to head to another CO market. Obviously, COS seemed to make some sense as it's the second largest metro out here. I guess HDN is the ski-centric airport that can take 737's as compared to EGE or ASE.

They won't need much fuel just for DEN-HDN hops which is good since the airplanes will be weight restricted. Unlike EGE and ASE, HDN does not have a control tower or approach control. Other than the unexpected oops excursion to PLK (downtown Branson) I can't remember when WN operated pax service at a non towered airport.

I'm just excited for a seasonal city add, as I hope WN will try more in the future.

I’m actually agree with you. If they add more flight to HDN.

My prediction is:

HOU-HDN
MDW-HDN
BWI-HDN
PHX-HDN

If they did ATL-HDN then it would benefit me greatly.

I know, but the price is sometimes astronomical, WN would be good competition.

Oh yes agreed. I am happy that WN is starting to serve more cities from ATL because it should decrease the DL prices.

sure, absolutely!! They should decreased the ticket prices. They don’t want to be more extremely expensive.

While I'm all for more WN service to winter destinations, think this could be a bit off brand. Are any other WN airports seasonal? I know there are seasonal flights, but airports?

I'm not clear why a seasonal flight is not off-brand, but a seasonal airport is off-brand.

Even with weight restrictions, there could be a long distance flight to HDN but a one stop in the other direction. BA does it like that for LCY-SNN-JFK / JFK-LCY
