It would also rule them out of converting something like STL or MCI to a hub

It means Denver wins the SWA expansion "sweepstakes" over BNA and HOU.

The Colorado Economic Development Commission awarded Southwest, which applied under the code name Project Garfield, $12.5 million in incentive tax credits. To receive the full incentive, the Dallas-based airline must add 1,013 full-time jobs paying an average annual wage of $128,115. It has eight years to make the hires.

Local economic developers spent months wooing Southwest executives, including visits in Dallas with the company’s top leaders.

Not really. They could just taxi those F9 'Buses over to the new C gates and slap a heart decal over Grizwald.

An "average annual wage of $128,115" for a thousand new workers is a lot of LUV.

I have no knowledge if it's correct or not, but a few factors to consider: there is an 8 year time horizon (so contracts will be renegotiated), and the added positions will include pilots. In addition, mechanics and even FAs at the top end of their scales can make above that amount. The article also doesn't mention what is included as compensation (e.g. non take-home compensation such as 401k match, profit sharing, other fringe).

SM Disclaimer: These are my opinions, not necessarily those of SWA.

Actually, the article says "[Southwest] must add 1,013 full-time jobs paying an average annual wage of $128,115." Profit sharing, 401(k) match and "other fringe" are not regarded as wages.

“My opinions are my own” and similar magic jargon will not save you. When employers require disclaimers, they are asserting control, which ironically, can give rise to liability.

Various salary websites all list average pay for FAs and Pilots below that figure. I haven't looked at Rampers or Customer Service agents. GK is reported to have made $7.5 million.

I don't knwo how accurate those websites are.

The terms were approved by the Colorado Economic Development Commission. Identical citations appear in multiple articles. It's a matter of public record.
The Colorado Economic Development Commission approved a $12.5 million tax incentive package Thursday for the airline, known as “Project Garfield” in the commission’s documents.

Southwest spokesman Dan Landson confirmed the company received the incentive package.

The firm’s proposed project is estimated to result in $75 million in capital expenditure at DIA, according to OEDIT documents.

The average annual wage of the new positions would be $128,115.

Likely includes benefits and adjustments for market. DEN is insanely expensive in terms of CoL. It’s not DAL... that’s for sure.

Please forgive my ignorance; but how is STL not a hub? I thought it was. Half of my WN flights have connected through there.

" full-time jobs paying an average annual wage of $128,115"

I have a difficult time believing that.
