There is no need to pay a higher fare now on WN when you can find good fares on legacy carriers with meals, priority boarding, etc. Also please do not pay absurd prices for fall travel as that is always low season to Hawaii and we have often seen roundtrip fares in the $250-300 range again for regular economy not "basic."
Of course with WN there is no change penalty so speculative bookings are not penalized... but I'd rather fly 5 hours in E+ for the same price.

Yep, it would have been a great deal for my parents who I kept telling them to sign up for the Companion Pass CC deal, they didn't like the deal I think because of the annual fee and the cost of them missing out on the 5K of purchases on their cash back card. I had no clue they wanted to go to Hawaii but suddenly now they are making plans (this started before the announcement, they got some deal with their timeshare for extra time. I just found out today) Between the companion pass and the bonus miles they probably could have gone both for free this September.. I'm nice enough that I won't be reminding them while I'm looking for flights for them. Already got $49 for HNL-KOA and now I have to wait until they load flights from the east coast (PHL or EWR, maybe BWI) which may not even be that cheap.

Hey guys, I'm wondering if you think prices will continue to drop? We missed out on the deals and see prices are around $380 right now for flights in May. Do you think this is the lowest competitors will reach or drop lower? So sorry if this is the wrong thread to ask, I just see that it's a topic on some posters minds right now.

Southwest is not in the habit of reducing WGA prices after lower buckets sell out. If a competitor runs a sale Southwest may silently match the fare. I see this often in California, but Hawaii is a different market. If I were Southwest I would not rush to match competitors' sale fares to Hawaii because of free bags and the companion pass.

Great point about Southwest. Do you feel as though competitors are likely to drop prices? Or is now the cheapest they're likely to be?

Welcome to FT!

It may be too late for May travels but you may be better off looking at other airlines. For example, if you apply for an Alaska Air credit card, you'll get BOGO (buy one get one free), free bags, etc. SWA may or may not be the cheaper option for your specific situation.

Getting the credit card, spending the money, and getting the companion voucher might take too long. There will not be a lot of advance purchase time for May travel.

I did this for a family member's May trip with a card application in November.

Avios redemption for a nonstop from LAX might be an option if you can find saver seats.

Does Alaska still have the BOGO? Looks like it's back to $120.

PHX is an AA hub with nonstop flights to each island. It would only require 25k BA Avios per RT in coach. And you can connect from WN to AA without leaving the airside secure area.

That's assuming you can find saver availability on AA. At LAX, you can look for availability on AA or AS.

Yes according to the wiki in the appropriate thread (https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/cred...s-30k-40k.html). Try a dummy booking.

I don't think we'll see the drastically low fares ($49-99 one way) reappear on the announced markets. I am hoping they make a comeback when new routes or destinations (SAN/SMF/LIH) are added.

thanks! at least this sweepstakes seems doable since you need to scan the code and be present to win. The tricky part will be getting from San Jose to Oakland in rush hour traffic.
