I assume the OP was joking (and that the point is moot anyway), but just in case anyone reading this is actually considering the idea: Be aware that when checking in at the gate to get preboarding and seat reservation documents, the gate agent will visually review whether or not you qualify as a COS. If you do not, they will cancel the second seat.

Thanks @ursine1 - I guess there's two lessons to be taken away from this thread.

I should have asked FT first, but I didn't want to lose the cheap seats. It all worked out at least.

Thanks to all that helped, and while I've done some reading here, expect a couple of stupid questions in the appropriate threads about it later (like the standby thing).

If they decide you don't qualify and cancel the second seat booked in advance, do you still get a refund?
