Security lines at LAX are impossibly long. Maybe 800 people in line. Precheck pax are being sent to the back of that line. TSA staff blames the diversion of passengers from Burbank and asserts that they are using a “new procedure” but everything will be back to normal in a few hours.

Another link to a CBS story of the plane going off the runway @ Burbank that was coming in from Oakland.
https://losangeles.cbslocal.com/2018...rbank-airport/
I fly SJC <-> BUR regularly and flew down/back there 2 days ago also in the rain. Pretty fun landing once they catch the runway and try to not over shoot their gate- esp in the rain....
Humph.

(Hey Fred, wouldn't that make it a 42,240 foot runway? They couldn't land on that?)

Not that long. If memory serves, only the individual "tiles" that were crushed need to be replaced, and those already exist (stored somewhere), and it's just a matter of digging the olds ones out, preparing the base surface, and lowering fresh replacements in. The tiles are not poured in place like regular strength concerete would be..

Cool. Does a NOTAM go out mentioning that it's been damaged? (I ask paradoxically I guess, as "if you need it, you NEED it" and I guess I can't imagine that knowing it's out of service could factor into a pilot's decision, but of course I have zero idea ....)

If memory serves, the month-long period that's it's showing right now is a computer-generated default from when they originally posted the NOTAM. (as OPNLguy already opined, unlikely to take long).
