Why is WN858 (DCA-HOU) canceled 31-May-2018?

Does anyone know why WN858 (DCA-HOU) was canceled today?

Give it a bit of time. Flight Stats shows an equiptment substitution about 12 minutes ago while the WN website still shows as cancelled. See if that resolves itself.

Many thanks! Can I ask where you're looking that up? I'm on Flight Stats but I don't see anything about the equipment swap.

Go to "more flight details" and then scroll to the very bottom. You will see a timeline starting yesterday showing every time a gate assignment is made or changed, the runway departure changes, and of course, when there is an equpt. sub.

On the other hand, WN still shows the flight as cancelled. So, maybe WN is more up-to-date than FlightStats and WN has repurposed that aircraft to perform some other flight.

Now, shows as cancelled about 12 minutes ago. The timing suggests that WN located and assigned a new aircraft, but then repurposed that "new" aircraft to another service. Or another aircraft went MX.

Finally got some info. WN says this flight was canceled due to an ATC order.

Multiple flights canceled in and out of DCA this afternoon, does NOT appear to have to do anything with A/C re purposing or MX like others guessed.

It's a very bad day to fly out of DC.

We do not tell airlines to cancel flights, SWA made the choice to cancel it vs wait out a delay.

What- more like a "Eh- me, I'd say 'no' but if you gotta go that badly, you're on your own!"?

(BTW, welcome. I like it when Ops insiders like you and @OPNLguy chime in here.)

This was the view around 6:30PM EST 5/31. Things got much worse over the next 2 or so hours with DCA essentially shut down.
Flight delays cascaded into crew time-outs, cancellations, hardware swaps, etc.
