Also saw it reported on one of the big 3 networks. They reported it could have been an uncontained engine failure. Again it's early and that was from them.

Philadelphia Inquirer says shrapnel penetrated the fuselage, injured at least 1.

Southwest Engine Blown

screeton Apr 17, 2018 10:33 am

Other media accounts say a window was blown open by engine debris and one channel reporting that psgr next to window had to be held in. The generally loose seatbelt latches have always made me wonder how well they would hold in a crisis. Many let belt material slip thru the latch mechanism without much resistance.

Passenger speaking on CNN said air masks came down but the landing was controlled...doesn't sound like a window went out

I was in an elevator and the news ticket screen in there said therewas a piece of engine that came through a window and caused “violent decompression.”

Now this is genuinely scary if you sat next to that window.

screeton Apr 17, 2018 11:16 am

Photos of plane exterior on MSNBC show what appears to be one window at rear of, or just behind wing on left (port) side of plane virtually gone. Passengers describe "violent" depressurization, and one passenger partially ejected and pulled back by other passengers. A lot of liquid visible below and behind damaged engine, possibly fuel and/or fire suppressant from emergency response teams. PHL air traffic stopped for undetermined period.

CBS: Passenger Marty Martinez did a brief Facebook Live posting while wearing an oxygen mask. He posted, "Something is wrong with our plane! It appears we are going down! Emergency landing!! Southwest flight from NYC to Dallas!!"
