Fight over bag space in the overhead bin...

Until Southwest starts enforcing the carry on bag size, and takes an official position on what is an open seat..... this is going to keep happening....

Are you implying this regularly has happened before? If not, why will it start now? And what does a policy on opening seating have anything to do with this?

I think WN already has taken a position on what is an open seat. All seats are open until they aren't.

And as another poster pointed out "going to keep happening" seems to imply it is or will be a regular event.

Also, I don't see anywhere in the article or video that this had anything to do with carry on bag size. It could just have easily been about someone thinking that the bin space they wanted to use shouldn't be used by someone else. Or a number of other things.

Fights and boiling points that were at the point that it could become physical? Yes, it has and will happen.

Uh huh. And we have had ad naseum discussion on what 'open' means SWA refuses to state just that when asked. The seat saving argument is one that is just setting up the seeds of an altercation.

Yes, the exact bin space spark was not mentioned in that article, but with SWA letting people bring full size bags instead of enforcing the carry on size is also setting up a stage for confrontation.

The bottom line is that this is just people behaving badly.

Only if you disagree with seat saving. Which is certainly your prerogative. And people NOT behaving badly tend to figure it out daily.

Bags in bins and seat saving all happen during boarding. The three incidents you linked happened either in the air or upon landing. So it is much less likely they were about bag size, bin space, or saved seats

Agree 100%. It could be about anything. Some people just don't know how to behave and get along.

Please name another airline and I will link to double the number of flights with fights that you linked to. You can love or hate Southwest policies, and I might agree or disagree with you about those policies. Your contention that these policies foster fights aboard the plane is laughable.

Another reason why we pay for EBCI ( we fly about 6 R/T's a year using CP and points so $60 is no big deal and well worth it to us) as our bags are up in the bin and we are seated in about row 8 before the clown show can start

Clearly, WN isn't the right carrier for you. Why do you feel the need to continue beating a dead horse. Just move on if this issue causes you so much angst.

Maybe laughable to you, however plainly evident to others who have posted the same sentiment.

Sorry. This has little (maybe nothing?) to do with carry on bag size enforcement. Just another horses ... being a jerk.

I find carry on bags of any size are rarely an issue on WN compared to other airlines - thanks to free checked bags. We still do carryon on only, even for two week trips and never have a problem storing bags.

Not to point out the obvious but you started this thread so you weren't responding to anyone.
