SW to Europe? Maybe.

@ghimlay: Transatlantic service on Southwest is a "maybe", says CEO. But going across the pond is not part of the 50 new destinations airline is currently studying #Aviation18

Plowed ground.

"I think with a code-share partner, we'll likely serve Europe and Asia in the not-too-distant future. But even that's a lower priority at this point."

Much more interested in B6's Europe service, but they seem to be pretty silent on that front.

Good! I was hoping BWI-BSL or BOS-BSL nonstop. The entire 737-MAX8 does have more capabilities, more fuel-efficient, and more range, as well.

Who reads that quote and thinks the take-way is "maybe?"

Everything is maybe.

Will Southwest fly to the moon? Maybe.

Sure there is! It only requires two steps:

1. Some city with an airport has to change its name to "the moon". Will that happen? Maybe. Let the speculation begin! (Cities have changed their names for promotional reasons before.)

2. Southwest then has to fly to that city. Will that happen? Maybe. Let the speculation begin!

No offense to the good people of Basel, I'm sure it's a fine city., but if Southwest is going to enter the European market, it's going to be some place where a lot of people travel for leisure, think DUB, LHR/LGW, CDG/ORY or AMS.

I would bet on Canada or South America happening before Europe.
