Woman threatens to kill all on a WN flight after forced from lav for smoking

(Surprisingly, the news snippets have not covered this yet...)

A woman was caught smoking in the restroom of an airplane, and the smoke detector was messed up. After being forced out of the restroom, she went ballistic, threatening to kill everyone on the plane." Watch a short video recorded by one of the passengers:
Irate passenger threatens to 'kill everyone on flight' - KPTV - FOX 12
After the plane landed in Sacramento, the woman was taken into police custody.

I was flying MCI-ABQ a few years ago. About the time we were beginning a gradual descent to ABQ, we made a hard right turn and a rapid descent to a small airfield that obviously was not ABQ. Turns out a guy was smoking in the restroom and set off the smoke detector. Police offloaded the offender and we proceeded on to ABQ.

I wish I could someday meet that smoker and thank him for allowing me to add the Durango La Plata County Airport (DRO) to the list of airports I've landed and taken off from. ^

And yes, I'm amazed that people still do this. On a freaking short-haul flight no less...

Heh........I've been there too, back in 2015. Spent a week in Cortez, CO on business.

The "terminal" was an old cinder block warehouse or something like that.

Decorum and TOS preclude me from using my preferred adjectives to describe this passenger.

Suffice it to say that she is currently rotting in jail where she belongs. Sounds like the FAs and passengers did a stand up job in confronting her behavior and subduing her when she (became) unhinged. Hopefully she will be permanently barred from future travel on WN.

Exactly! She will be banned for life. Her behaviors is not acceptable. She cannot smoking on the flight. It's against the FAA regulation. She's breaking the law.

I saw this article on DailyMail. She is a real piece of work, that's for sure.

Was sitting in a front bulkhead seat too, looks like.

I wonder how much fine/jail term she faces. And, if it would be my choice, on place of airline I would demand that she pay back for operational losses caused by diversion/inconvenience of passengers. I'm sure it will go into several dozens of thousands $.

Some people shouldn't be allow near a plane - ever. But she'll likely be back, with an "emotional support animal" and a threat to sue.

When I first saw this headline I was like, "Smokers". But then upon reading the article I was like "Mental illness ." It certainly can't diagnosed from afar in an individual case, but I know from experience there are a lot of people out there with closet problems. Closet, as they're mostly functional as adults so it's seldom noticed. But put them in the wrong kind of stressful situation and dangerous, self-destructive or highly aggressive behavior comes out, along with a delusional belief that they are "right" or at least acting normally. I say this as the relative of at least one such person....
