DEN is really my least favorite airport in the US. There are so many reasons to hate DEN..not the least of which that it's far out of town, has a consolidated TSA line for ALL gates, requires a tram ride, has ONE gas station for refilling the rental and they charge an arm and a leg...etc. But I would still take it over a busy day at the Circle of Hell in SAN. The CoH is really the only drawback to SAN (okay so is the single runway)..but on any other carrier in both Terminals, SAN is easy. T2 International in particular is nice and brand spanking new. SAN is practically downtown and curb to gate is easy everywhere. T1 to T2 is walkable cubside.
But then again, the difference between T1 CoH and the new T2 is 50 years. You notice. CoH was built in 1967 for 60's level traffic..well before airport design included anything like ergonomics, clarity, and facilities considerations were a major thing.

Southwest is merely a tenant!
After a miserable experience of going through TSA only to find out Gate 11 is part of the Alaska terminal. It’s not a southwest gate and it leases only when needed. after almost missing my flight, I followed up with the Southwest supervisor, Eric Santana. He effectively shrugged his shoulders and said, "the airport will not allow up to put up signage" and "Southwest is just a tenant, it's really the airport's fault". i was incredulous and asked, "aren't all airlines just tenants of airports?"... No apology, no awareness to the fact that it's southwest's responsibility to take care of its customers and to make sure it's customers know that there flight is operating out of a different terminal. Also, when a passenger is in the wrong place for no fault of their own, perhaps SW escorts them vs. making it the passenger's problem
My learning - avoid Southwest out of San Diego. After 4 years of A-list status, i am really done.

Over that?! Ah well- I for one shall celebrate one fewer A-Lister to potentially compete with for standby slots out of SAN! But I'm surprised an A-Lister hasn't gone out of SAN enough times (I figure around "twice") to notice that: 1- T1 is G1-1A-2 and then G3-10 and, you know, 2- knows how to avoid infrequent-flyer mistakes like not reading their BP or signage for their departure gate.

On that note, it'd be interesting to find out what WN considers the MCT for SAN. I can't find anything offhand (only threads about DL and UA) but I'd imagine they'd add a bit more time considering the whole having to clear security again thing.

Having started this thread back in November, I would just like to add my default name for SAN Southwest Terminal 1....The Doughnut of Despair.

Well, I fell for this as well. And have been based out of San Diego for 12 years. I thought about protesting and sacrificing my companion status in anger.
But instead have decided to publicly flog myself for only paying attention to if I was going out of gate 1/2 and just happily automating my way in to gate 3-10 security even though my gate said 11. But lo and behold, precheck being what it is at San Diego it cost me one doughnut walk, then 5 minutes tops to exit and go back through the other side. Which included the random at the Metal detector and apparently that female officers aren’t allowed to swab your shoes while you are wearing them (what’s up with that?)
not sure how we will line up without our pillars of guidance... hard enough when they are there!

Southwest needs to address this for people with connections. Figure out a way to get people back behind the gates so they don't have to re-clear security, or something.

I had gate 11 a few months back, and had only pulled an A50. However, as the integrity of the boarding system completely breaks down at Gate 11 due to there being no boarding group signage, it simply became a boarding group scrum. I think I actually did better than A50, but there is no way to know. Had I paid a BS fare instead of a WGA I would have been angry. There were some angry folks there too. All that said, it still beats the Circle of Hell. And even the Box of Hell that is Gate 1/1A/2

All that because I picked a connection in SAN so I could connect through the airport I grew up flying in and out of...
