(a) Individual must have a valid California address as evidenced by their application for the Rapid Rewards Credit Card, (b) Individual must open a Rapid Rewards Credit Card by November 30, 2017 and (c) please allow up to eight weeks for Companion Pass to be fulfilled after making first purchase.

Does this mean that you can apply late November and wait till January to make your first person, get the companion pass for two years? It doesn't really define anywhere that the promotional companion pass is 2018 only.

Wow. Guess they are trying to make up for the $100M+ loss due to the Hurricanes.

Or entice their Hawaii target market to sign up for the card now so that the companion pass will expire close to when Hawaii flights start. Ppl won't be able to obtain the companion pass via card signups due to 5/24 and/or previously held the card.

I am not expecting the Hawaii flights to start until much later in 2018 and guessing the prices will be skyrocket after the low introductory prices. I still love WN, but when I fly by myself I usually take another carrier. When I travel with my wife the CP makes WN the default, but pricing usually evens out with legacy carriers if planning ahead.

My strategy is to apply for the business card, buy a pack of gum and get the companion pass through 2018. Complete spend for 60k bonus not until early 2018. Sometime in 2018, apply for another WN card and meet spend for 40k bonus. Spend a tad more to hit 110k total. This should get me the companion pass through 2019, no?

Pretty annoyed that this is not available to those who have any RR credit card in the past 24 months. Heck, I might as well cancel my RR Visa out of protest.

Intriguing! Questions:
  • For those of us who have a SW CC but got our bonus > 2 years ago, would we feasibly be able to cancel our card, wait a month, apply for a new SW card...and get approved?
  • Do all SW cards -- consumer and business -- count for this promotion for CA residents... or only the Plus one that I've seen linked to?

EDITED TO ADD:
D'oh. Would help if I read more carefully. On the bottom of the SW Plus CC page, it shows clearly that you can also enjoy the same free companion pass benefit with one purchase on their other cards (Premier and Business).

Now I'm tempted to get the business card.
(hopefully that'd be viewed as a separate product from the consumer card)

Chances are the 50K ( or even the 60K offer) will return to personal cards at some point in 2018.

I would wait until at least July to see if either the 50K or 60K of offer pops up and then you don't have to spend $6K on the card or earn 6K CPQP via other activities for CP until 12/31/2019

I'm eligible for this offer right now, but about to move where WN really doesn't make sense. Absolutely no nonstops anywhere I care to go, particularly with a companion. If this were free, I'd do it anyway just for kicks (and even try to put the $3K on by January juts in case), since it's a biz card and doesn't raise my #/24, and hey, who knows, maybe someone would suddenly say, "Hey! Wanna go to Phoenix and stay for free?" But it's got a $100 fee and flying WN is going to be an ordeal (either add a stop to a trip I'm making, or shell out $$$ on hotels, rental cars, etc. on a trip I wasn't going to make).

Should I pull the trigger or not?
