Hello All:

So I applied for my card on November 29th, first purchase made on December 9th. I have travel coming up on January 1 which I went ahead and booked for myself only. What is the likelihood that I'l get my CP in time? Should I pay off my current balance ahead of time to increase my chances? :-/

Most data points indicate a month between first purchase and CP email notice. It also appears they are done in batches, not daily. My wife and I applied a week apart and did first spend a week apart, and we were granted CPs on the same day.

your travel on 1/1 may be cutting it too short, as it is less than a month.

Agree. I believe your account will need to cycle first before the CP status is processed. You can send a secure message to Chase and ask them your cycle date.

Thank you. I knew that I was probably cutting it close but I like your suggestion about contacting Chase via secure message. Will do that now.

Yep, immediately after the first cycle with my first purchase and AF, both the few purchase miles and CP was electronically created. About a month after I applied.

A 11/29 apply date was pushing it too much. It might get credited before 1/1, but you will be sweating it.

i expect the 40k to credit after my early January cycle which is precisely what I want.

Applied and approved end of November. Billed annual fee on 12/1. Received credit card 12/13. Made first charge on 12/15. Hit $1000 minimum for 40K points 12/20. Statement closed the next day and bonus points posted to my Southwest account already.

However, no companion pass yet. I have no clue when it will show up. Sent secure message to chase who predictably replied "up to eight weeks after first purchase".

Want to start planning vacations......

Plan them now! If you're traveling at peak times, reserve both seats with points (separate PNRs make the process a little easier) and you can just call in to switch the companion's points bookings to the free version. If the flight isn't sold out, you can do it yourself - just add the companion booking and then cancel the points version.

If you aren't traveling at peak times, it matters even less. You can just book your own ticket and add the companion whenever the pass becomes available. I can't recommend you do it this way, because then it'd be my fault if you got stuck without a free seat That said, I've literally never been in a situation where I wasn't able to add a companion - even with short notice, as long as I was willing to check availability frequently.

Same exact circumstance.
Just contacted SW on the Twitter today.
They say it can take six to eight weeks for the CP to "accrue to your account." Once it does, we'll receive a notification email from Southwest to select a companion.
That six to eight weeks sounds like cs-speak to me. Not sure I trust it.
In the spirit of HUACA, maybe you could try Twitter and see if you get the same answer.

I took my first flight with my Companion on Sunday. Was a little surprised that my account did not have either A-List or the free wifi. Have other people experienced this, too? I thought that CP included the benefits of lower tiers.

Hilarious!

Not quite sure how a tier that is earned by actually flying on the airline is lower than just getting a credit card bonus.

And free wifi is only a benefit of A+, not A- or CP. That's 50 BIS flights or 100k TQPs to get free wifi.

Nope, those tiers require BIS miles or a challenge/promotion to earn. You'll still have to check yourself in at T-24, as well as your companion, and pay for your internet. Challenges have been reasonably common promo offers, but we just got done with a round of them, so not sure when they'll reappear. The flights for challenges have to be paid for, they can't be points bookings. Last year I was offered two years of A-List (not preferred, never heard of a challenge for that) for ten flights. Cross your fingers, I guess!

Apples to oranges - CP is its own program, not a tier of the A/A+ program. In terms of qualifying points, there are CPQP and AQP - things like credit card bonuses only qualify as CPQP.
