Misinformation on Issuing LUV Vouchers for Expired Ticketless Travel Funds

I didn't see anything about this in the Wiki or immediately in the forum, so I wanted to let people know.

I know that within the past year the fee for converting expired ticketless travel funds to a LUV voucher went up to $100.

But yesterday I emailed the request to have expired funds of approximately $190 converted to a LUV voucher, expecting to get a $90 voucher. But instead I got this:

"Thanks for contacting us. We appreciate the opportunity to respond.

When plans change, we allow our Customers to have full use of the travel funds for 12 months from the original purchase date as long as the reservation is cancelled at least ten minutes prior to departure. The expiration date of the funds is included at the top of every itinerary, which is e-mailed each time a reservation is created, changed, or cancelled. We also include an advisory that all travel involving the funds must be completed by the expiration date. At this point, the funds associated with _____ are no longer available. We regret that you were unable to use your travel funds prior to their expiration."

So it looks like they are ending the policy of issuing the vouchers...major major bummer.

Call customer service at 214-932-0333 during Dallas daytime business hours who can definitively say if any policy has changed. My $ is on no, it hasn't.

I believe agents who respond to email are actually reservations agents. As such they are not trained for as many situations as customer service reps or supervisors. What they are good at doing, however, is cutting and pasting what appears to be a correct answer. (and, of course, the obligatory "Sharing your concerns at an upcoming management meeting").

I've noticed people posting on Facebook that they were denied extending expired funds as well, so this may actually be the new reality. It was generally stated in the past that the reissue was a "one time exception." Given the new hard-line, "no exceptions" stance on no-show policy enforcement, I would not be surprised if a new hard-line stance on expired funds extension (even with fee) was the new "standard." Hopefully not, but I wouldn't be shocked.

Too many here took the reissue to be automatic. It wasn't. It's been at the discretion of the customer relation rep you are talking to.

Must check the financials to see what sort of boost this gives the bottom line.

Negligible, since almost nobody knew that extensions were possible.

So, is it no longer at their discretion?

If it is going to make them only a negligible amount of money, why change? Makes no sense to me.

They could make it an A-List/CP holder benefit. Goodwill.

Especially since elite that get their status by segments rather than points probably never need the benefit.

Don't know about that... I've always gotten AL/AL+ status by point totals rather than segments.

I called customer relations and they do still issue LUV vouchers for 100 less and with 6 month expiration.

Is that still the case? The Wiki says $75, so I presume it is not up to date.

That $75 figure is long outdated.

But is the procedure still offered? And how much is the fee now?
