FAA is now saying they reviewed the ATC tapes and the pilots did not radio that they might have a problem. It's quite possible they had three green lights and had no warning when the gear collapsed.

What shows the FAA reversed itself?

"Flight 345, which left Nashville, Tennessee, at 1:55 p.m., reported possible front landing gear issues as it approached the airport, FAA spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen said in a statement."
Correction: WCBS report suggests FAA jumped to wrong conclusion:

"LGA general manager Thomas Bosco said the pilot did not report any problems before landing."

Can you imagine having a FAA inspector riding shotgun when THAT happens?

Maybe this week they'll report that the landing gear inspector is named Lucinda Bolts?

Note to Penlin: Ask for stringer rates before releasing your photos. No sense giving the media stuff for free.

+1. I missed this post earlier. Hopefully Penlin was fairly compensated.

Why parents think their arms will somehow protect their children during a crash makes me wonder what the hell is wrong with them. Among the first to get hurt in a crash are these lap children whose heads crash into the ceiling of the plane thanks to their parents. That said, I hope there were no lap children yesterday.

6 were sent to the hospital and 4 were treated by EMTs at the scene. 1 runway is open.

Now CNN International is showing pictures of the passengers from this flight supposedly waiting in an airport lounge (does Southwest have them?) at LGA for their luggage.

According to this article they used the United and Air Canada lounges.

Between the video and witness accounts it sounds like this is just a case of a bad landing. I wonder if the fact that they were running about 45 minutes behind schedule might have created a case of get-home-itis?

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why you need to turn off your electronic devices.
