Frequently Asked Questions about Rapid Rewards Visa
1. What are the different card types?
non-business Plus, non-business Premier, business Plus, and business Premier.
Premier cards have a higher annual fee but give 6000 anniversary bonus points vs. 3000 points for the Plus cards. It is generally agreed that you will get the bonus for a new account if you have not had that particular type of RR Visa card before, but Chase appears to be in the process of changing their policies (see below).
Note that prior to RR-2.0, the two types of RR Visa cards were "Classic" ($29 to $39 annual fee) and "Signature" ($59 to $69 annual fee). Plus and Premier are new products for purposes of the (soon to be retired?) "One bonus per product" rule.
2. Is there a zero annual fee version?
No.
3. Can I "churn" these cards? How often can I reapply for the same type card and get the signup bonus?
The official rule has recently changed more than once. Closely check the T&C of your offer as different rules may apply to concurrently available offers. The Inflight offer linked above states:
Referral offers have been seen with a limit of one individual and one business bonus per lifetime (although T&C read by the CSR taking the application differed from those printed on the referral offer).
Actual results sometimes differ from the official rule. People have reported receiving the bonus a second time on the same card type at various intervals even when the bonus was officially once per lifefime per product. Please post your results here.
As of mid-May 2015 Chase has cracked down on applicants who appear to have much less than average attachment to their cards. Specifically, more than 5 applications within the past 24 months is the approximate cutoff: Chase crackdown on churners: Please report your RR Visa approvals/denials here
4. Can I cancel the card and still collect the anniversary bonus?
Yes. Reasonable people disagree on whether this crosses the line of exploiting the card issuer. The anniversary bonus is described a reward for having been a cardmember for the past year, not as a reward for paying the next year's annual fee. Based on that description, the bonus has been earned even if you then cancel the card. As a practical matter, there is a window of only a couple weeks to accomplish this. The bonus points will post on the billing date of the statement containing your new annual fee, which will have posted earlier in the billing cycle. You have 30 days from posting of the annual fee to cancel the card and have the new fee refunded.
5. Does the annual fee count toward the spending threshold for the signup bonus?
No.
6. When will my signup bonus post to my Rapid Rewards account?
If you have met the spending threshold at least several days before your statement date, the bonus will normally post 2 days after your statement date, not when you actually spent the money! Cutting the timing or the spending amount too closely is not advisable. Mistakes can happen.
7. My statement shows sufficient purchases to meet the spending threshold. Why didn't I receive the bonus?
This can happen if you met the spending threshold just a few days before the statement date. It appears that accounts are flagged for meeting the spending threshold independently of the statement generation process and less frequently than daily.
8. How can I determine my statement date?
You should call Chase (phone number on back of card) to check your next statement date. Credit card companies are now required to have payments due on the same numerical day of each month, which means closing dates vary throughout the year. (Before reforms enacted after the financial crisis, RR Visa cards had constant closing dates rather than constant due dates.) The closing date should remain within the same small range unless you request a change of your payment due date. When you request a change, Chase normally can delay your next statement but cannot accelerate it. If you are unwisely taking the risk of cutting your timing too close, you should call Chase more than once to confirm your next statement date.
9. I accidentally crossed the spending threshold in December rather than January. Can I return a large purchase to bring my spending back below the threshold?
Unlikely. It appears that the sweep to check spending threshold does not un-flag an account previously flagged as meeting the threshold. It's not even clear whether the sweep counts returns at all. If you realize the error before the statement closes and you have a payment due date change available, you might be able to push the December closing date into January.
10. Can I apply for a credit card in my wife's name but my Rapid Rewards number, so that the points funnel into my account?
People have tried this. Some have succeeded. Others have reported that Chase closed the account and posted no Rapid Rewards points. Do you feel lucky? Programs can become very aggressive when they suspect members of defrauding the program by using non-matching names. When you game the system you are only on solid ground if you follow the rules to the letter. Breaking the rules means that the program can penalize you if they want to, and believe me: They want to.
11. Can I scam this system in any other way? I just had a clever idea.
There is nothing new under the sun here on FlyerTalk. If it relates to established program rules and it isn't discussed here you can be confident your idea will not work.

At the risk of being admonished for knowing better,as I probably should,in my confusion as to how to proceed, I am going to ask the experts here to advise on my current options.
My travel has been drastically cut back and I will most likely not be A list after this year. Retirement is also looming within the next 12 months or less.
I would like to at least preserve my CP as long as I can. Am I correct in assuming that I should wait until the end of 2018 to apply for the Visas and cross the spending threshold in early January so that the CP would be valid through 2020? I have never had to pay attention to CP earning dates, thus my sense of confusion.
That would seem to leave me without a CP in early 2019 until my first statement closes and post to WN.
The current 60K offers are tempting ,but it seems that waiting is advisable. Would any advice you offer change if my employment were to end sooner?
Thanks for any insight you can offer

Your plan sounds good ASSUMING that you will be 3/24 or under come late 2018, the companion pass rules stay the same and that there are 50 or 60K offers available in later 2018.
Last I checked there is only one current 60K offer, for the business card.
If you are married I would lock in CP now through 12/31/2019 and let the other person get CP in 2020, that is what my wife and I do

Applying for two Chase SWA cards
As of April 1, my wife will go from 5/24 to 2/24. I plan to have her apply for two SWA cards in order to get her CP pass. She has a long credit history and credit scores in the 800's. For Chase cards, she currently has a Freedom card and an MPE card (both of which she applied for more than 2 years ago), and she also has a CSR card which she applied for in Jan. 2017. I know that there have been some DPs of Chase taking a close look at and/or suspending or closing accounts when there have been applications for several Chase cards in a short period. My understanding is that this is mainly because the applicants have a short credit history or perhaps lower incomes relative to the credit they are seeking. My current plan is to have her apply for the SWA Plus and SWA Premiere cards on the same day in order to combine hard pulls and to speed up the process of getting her CP. However, I wanted to run it by this group to see if anyone thinks that would set off red flags or for other reasons be a bad idea to apply for both cards on the same day. There's no MS on the CSR or MPE cards and a little MS on the Freedom card (primarily to meet the $1500 quarterly bonus spend) but nothing excessive that I think would trigger suspicion if reviewed as part of credit approval. Thanks for your input.

The higher tier card applications say that if you aren't approved for a card for that tier, you will automatically receive a lower-tier card. Should not be a surprise to hear of simultaneous apps for two different-tiered cards to end up in the issuance of two same-tiered cards.

AFAIK only one person reported getting 2 of the same Southwest card. My post was in reference to I had never heard it before EMPTYNEST reported it in the past few weeks and as far as I know he is still the only person who ever claimed to get 2 of the same product Southwest Cards.
Plenty of people have done simultaneous apps for Southwest Cards and all were either approved for both cards or denied for one/both cards but I have never heard of a person getting 2 of the same card until one poster ( EMPTYNEST) claimed this recently.
I have actually seen PLUS cards come with higher credit limits than Premier cards as the "lowered tiered card " is still the same (PLUS OR PREMIER) product. Per the T&C there is a Signature and Platinum version of both the Plus and Premier cards. The only difference is you get a lower credit limit, you do not get a different product and I have a feeling a person who is only getting a $2K CL ( platinum version) is not getting instant approval.
This quote from the OP also takes the "lowered tiered card" out of the equation

I just applied for the business card and was denied with the reason that there's no public record of my business. I listed myself as a sole-proprietor, used SSN for Tax ID, and had the income as only a few hundred dollars. They said I would have to send in a letter from the IRS as proof of business. I've applied for many businesses in the past and this was never asked before. Any advice?

I changed the link to the still currently available 50K offer. Note that a search on Chase.com shows the two personal cards with bonuses of 40K each. The wiki lists 50K offers for both, but I suspect they will be gone soon.

I looked further into this. The 40K personal offers say what Doctor of Credit posted and I trusted without actually looking at the language (sigh):
The 50K personal card still have the old language:
So, yes, those who want both 50K offers should grab them now. Presumably the newer, more restrictive language will appear on the 50K offers soon, or, worse, those 50K offers will disappear. The 40K offers are what I found by searching on Chase's website.
The product is not available to either (i) current Cardmembers of any Southwest Rapids RewardsŪ Credit Card, or (ii) previous Cardmembers of any Southwest Rapid Rewards Credit Card who received a new Cardmember bonus within the last 24 months. This does not apply to Cardmembers of the Southwest Rapid Rewards Business Card and Employee Credit Card products.
This product is not available to either (i) current Cardmembers of this credit card, or (ii) previous Cardmembers of this credit card who received a new Cardmember bonus for this credit card within the last 24 months.

In the past Chase has denied the card for breaking the rules ( 5/24, less than 24 months, etc ) to get the sign up bonus.
A few people here and on DOC's sight have said they applied using the 40K application with the NEW language and were approved for the card but in reality should not get the bonus as they already have a Personal card.
On person even said ( Doc's site) that Chase confirmed his sign up bonus. I know CSR's are not to be trusted but if you SM the they are reading off notes they see on the account.

My plan was to apply for the SW Business card first immediately followed by the Personal to qualify for the CP. Unfortunately, I received the decision pending 30 days message. Should I apply for the personal card in the meantime or wait until I am approved/denied for the business before proceeding? I would definitely wait, but I don't want to risk the 50k bonus no longer being offered by the time I am approved and ready to apply for the personal. Also if I am at 2/24, so would it be possible to be approved for all three SW cards?
