Is Horizon Air OutCompeting WN in SEA?

Earlier this year WN dropped its SEA-GEG route and now it is dropping PDX-GEG early in January. These seem to fit the classic WN route - so it seems odd that they would drop them. Further, both routes were used as connections to other cities in the system as well. I don't see any significant increase in GEG, SEA, or PDX flights from other cities.

Horizon Air flies very efficient 76-seat turboprops on these routes. Could it be that the venerable 737s just can't compete? Or is it just a matter of changing priorities and realigning aircraft?

I see it as the latter, realigning aircraft. They are also cutting Fort Lauderdale-Orlando routes.

I think they are realigning the aircraft in preparation for the Flight Attendant to vote on the near International and over water flights, i.e. Peru, Ecuador, Venezuela, etc.

Horizon flies hourly shuttles between Seattle and Spokane. Anyone (not just AS golds) can do same day standby for free on that route too so it is really convenient. The Q400s aren't bad for those short flights either.

WN never really had a great schedule on that route but the few times I flew GEG-SEA/PDX the planes were packed. Both of these routes were inherited from Morris Air, so they've been around for a while.
