Milwaukee Brewers Dump F9 Sponsorship, Pick Up WN
 

Can't say its surprising with all the cuts F9 has made, or did their deal coincidentally just expire recently? Wouldn't surprise me to see the Frontier Airlines Center in downtown be next to dawn the WN name.

Southwest Airlines (NYSE: LUV) is proud to announce that the carrier has become the official airline sponsor of the Milwaukee Brewers. The sponsorship includes in-stadium signage, a field-level interactive fan experience, and a "How far did it fly?" in-game feature during Brewers home games.

"The People of Milwaukee are passionate about their hometown Brewers, and Southwest Airlines is passionate about Milwaukee," said Southwest Airlines Vice President of Marketing, Sales and Distribution Kevin Krone. "We're excited by all the opportunities this partnership will bring not only to our valued Customers, but to Brewers fans as well."

Just FYI....it's "don," not "dawn."

Actually Frontier hasn't done anything for a few years. AirTran had an area in the outfield for the last 3 years I believe and had signage around the stadium. So Southwest renaming it makes sense. Now if they would only keep the AirTran plane painted in Brewer colors.

Frontier continued to have signage at Miller Park and continued to pay for "official airline of the Milwaukee Brewers" through last season. We know that Frontier's overall marketing budget in Milwaukee is apparently being reduced in conjunction with reduced flying here. We don't know if the reduced budget includes any Brewer-related advertising at all (commercials during broadcasts, airport signage, etc), but it does not include paying for retention of "official airline" status.

Southwest is not taking over the AirTran Landing sponsorship at Miller Park. ATI Therapy is taking that space formerly sponsored by AirTran.

Frontier's radio spots during the Brewers broadcasts promote the airline as the "official airline of the Milwaukee Brewers radio network."

Two Milwaukee Brewers, along with the Racing Sausages, will be working at WN this noon at MKE, handing out boarding passes, making announcements, etc.; the participating Milwaukee Brewers will be Jonathan Lucroy and Yovani Gallardo.

I'm surprised WN isn't the official airline of the KC Royals. It too used to be YX. F9 still has a presence at MCI, but not nearly as big as WN...plus the Frontier brand doesn't have any hometown connotation to it the way Midwest did.

So what do we get in KC? United. :confused: Although to be honest I'm not sure if they actually fly the team...they just have all of the in-stadium advertising.

I guess the Royals have been so bad lately that no airline really wants them...so maybe United just offered up a few boxes of baseballs for the privilege...

The Milwaukee Brewers again trade places for a few hours with Southwest workers. This time, it's Jean Segura, who works a MKE-TPA departure. Brewers' pitcher Matt Garza was also apparently supposed to participate, but was recently placed on 15 day DL (and I don't mean Delta).

This scenario has also taken place at other airports across the country, with their local pro athletes, over the years. It's always good for a little bit of free PR and airtime.
