WN planes "vandalized" while parked at gates

Didn't see this in the WN forum, newsstand, or TS&S. Apparently WN is investigating "vandalism" to their planes while parked on the ground. Unusual markings left in soot and dirt on landing gear and undersides.

So it's ok for employees to write their name in the dust, but anything else warrants and FBI investigation?

I thought this was about someone actually damaging the aircraft.

Probably said "Please Wash Me!" in something that looked like Arabic writing.

I think it's pretty funny.

But...I imagine some people will be either offended or alarmed to see arabic markings on WN aircraft...even if the message was something innocent like "Bags Fly Free!"

Out of an abundance of caution, hose 'em off.

Is dust part of an airplane? Are you really "marking" a plane by moving around the dust? Vandalism? Perhaps I'm vandalizing my keyboard right now.

The writings which some have interpreted as being either Arabic or Arabic-type symbols appeared to have been done with a chemical process that reveals the text once an auxiliary power unit is turned on and heats up the outside skin of the aircraft, according to Feldman.

This investigative reporter's "conclusion" is one of the funniest things I've read in quite awhile (since an aircraft APU doesn't do any of what he said it does). It makes me wonder what else they get wrong--on topics that I don't have expertise on...
