Southwest Magazine Hand Surgeon ad

I know anyone who flys frequently and reads the SW magazine has seen this guys ads. Accused of beating his 4th wife and license revoked in 2006 for Cocaine usage.

Southwest: do you check these guys out before they advertise????

Much like most other "branded" publications, it is not run by WN directly; Rather a magazine publisher. And as long as they are running a reasonably legitimate business (licensed, legal, etc), the ad is "respectable" (nothing controversial, no naked people, or a burning cross, etc), and they pay their bill.... Then should be up to the consumer to do the background and find if the advertiser someone they want to use.

Also, it looks like it is run by Pace communications http://pacecommunications.com and it looks like they also are the ones behind DL, UA, US and VX's inflight magazines.

Finally, IMhO I would never see a doctor based on an airline mag ad.

Thanks for the information. Was informative.

I agree with you. Being in the medical field these ads looked way to "stepford wives". Between this dude and the dentists group ad in Houston both are kind of scary.

Consumer beware is my motto and ALWAYS check them out.

That may be true, but it's moot in this case: I don't have a business relationship with the magazine publisher, only with Southwest.

Therefore, Southwest is directly responsible for anything good or bad in that magazine, regardless of who prints it. It bears Southwest's name and it gets placed in their airplanes. It's their magazine.

I'm not saying this particular ad is bad....I'm not familiar with it or the product the guy claims to sell.

He runs a bunch of TV commercials here in Austin with the adoring family beside him. He states that the Brown Center will care for you just like he cares for his own family.

At the end, one of the girls sez "Daddy's baby girl."

These ads always came across as greasy, and not quite right. Too bad for the wife and kids.

Never said WN wasn't responsible.... It is quite likely they have some editorial say in the publication. (FWIW, I would assume they would need to sign off on the copy before it would print).

But just based on the OP premise.... I still say WN would not be directly responsible for their advertisers (at least in this instance). I guess an example I can think of: Coke usually has the summer cans that have deals for Six Flags parks.... its kind of up to the user to find out if Six Flags is safe or not. @:-)

If the ad says he can repair carpel tunnel syndrome without stiches, and have you back to work the next day, isn't it WORTH the risk

I remember how great it was to eat at finally get to one of "the best restaurants in the US." Some time later I realized how much of a sucker I was (the restaurant had simply paid to be featured on the list in Spirit magazine.)

Since then I barely glance at the best restaurants, best steakhouses, best surgeons, feature in Spirit.

LOL! The Houston dentists ad is my fave, I once took it home to show my wife.

The trouble is, some people don't naturally show their teeth when they smile (including these guys), but they are applying the logic "we're dentists- we have to show our perfect teeth".

Unfortunately for them, this has the effect of making them look like a bunch of serial killers!

Paul. (Who does not have perfect teeth. Obviously ;-)

You folks read the magazine?

I am impressed.

Do this for me. Take the magazine with you. Read it, throw it away or line your bird cage. I do not care, just take it.

My customers are magazine printers and they need the work.

Thanks!

That is all.

Unless you're currently married to the Doc, I don't see the problem....

So strange. I have been watching his commercials since I was in elementary school at least. He has a bazillion children and I NEVER heard any bad press about him, so it must have been covered up pretty well. Too bad.

Guess his hand job days are over.

(or just begun)

is your expectation that all advertisement should be vetted by WN? payout ratios from casinos to ambiguous statements like "best steak house in TX?"

and at what level should there be a cutoff? if he beat his dog can he advertise? what if he had speeding tickets?
