Fire destroys historic Georgia Theatre in Athens
The building at the center of the Athens, Georgia music scene was gutted by flames Friday morning. Bands such as REM, Widespread Panic, B 52's, Winton Marsalis, Indigo Girls, Phish, Dave Matthews Band, and the Police have graced the stage since the late 70's. The building itself was built in the late 1800's. Definitely a sad day in Athens, Ga. Fortunately no one was injured. Plenty of news stories out there googleable.
