Space Coast - Hotel Recommendations
We are considering spending a week on the Space Coast in July 2008. I would appreciate any recommendations.
Thanks |
Any particular reason for the Space Coast? What about the First Coast? Robyn

It depends on what you are looking to do during the week. There are a lot of hotels in Cocoa Beach with good access to the beach. There's also easy access to the Beach-Line (528) which gives you a easy route into Orlando to all the theme parks (Sea World, Disney, Universal Studios). The Space Center is also not far from there.
A little futher down the coast there are beachfront hotels in the Melbourne/Indialantic area. Those beaches are typically a little less crowded than Cocoa Beach. |
Keep in mind that around the 4th of July race in Daytona, hotels in Central Florida raise rates and typically sell out. There's not enough rooms in just Daytona for all of the race fans.

Thanks for your replies.
We are interested in the Space Coast for it's proximity to Orlando. We hope to spend a week on the space coast, one in Orlando and one of the gulf coast. My husband is joining us after the first week that we are considering the space coast and I have a relative working in Orlando should myself and the kids run into any issues. Hopefully we will miss the Daytona rush in early July as we will not arrive in Florida or the U.S. for that matter until 18th July. |
July is mighty hot. Might I make a strong suggestion? Inside corridors. The a/c units for Florida hotels just can't keep up with the humidity, heat and mosquitoes. Whatever hotel you chose, get inside corridors. For Titusville, that means only the Hampton Inn. There will be a new Fairfield next door in March 2008. For Cocoa Bch., there is a wide choice. But many of the properties are older and again outside corridors. How about a hotel smack dab halfway between Cocoa and Orlando off Route 50? There is a shopping plaza called Waterford Mall and nearby some hotels. The rates are lower and you will be midway between both locales. The Hilton Garden Inn is nice. Google map Link:

Brosna - The First Coast is about an hour north of the the Space Coast. With all deference to my fellow Floridians who live on the Space Coast - there is more to do in the Jacksonville area than the Daytona area.
But you know what. Since you'll be spending a week in Orlando - and since both the Space Coast and the First Coast are basically summer beach destinations (and it is "high season" here then) - I would suggest looking into areas south of the Space Coast. Even as far south as Palm Beach County (which is still only about 2 hours or so from Orlando). Summer is "low season" in south Florida - and there is a lot more going on there than in north Florida. How old are your children - and what price range are you looking at (there are some good deals to be had at some pretty fancy south Florida hotels in the summer)? Robyn |
