Closest Florida Airport to the Beach
 

Hey everyone,
I'm relatively new to this forum and was wondering which Florida airport is closest to the beach such that one could walk/take cheap public transport from the airport to the beach for a day, reverse that, and head back out the same day. Thanks for any info and feel free to PM me if you feel it necessary.

PS - If its effectively a tie or toss up, I prefer Gulf Coast :p

My first thought was Melbourne (MLB), but it looks like Key West (EYW) is pretty darn close.

Key West (EYW) is basically right across the street from a beach, so you could walk.

I don't know how realistic a same day stop would be - you'll have to change planes at least once, so to do a same day you'd probably only have a few hours on the beach.

It's not super close, but it's very easy to take public transit from MIA to the beach. And MIA is a lot cheaper to get to than EYW.

I can't believe you didn't mentioned our own - SRQ? ;)

The OP prefers Gulf side, so SRQ should be high on the list. It's few minutes by taxi to very nice Gulf beaches......

The OP did say "public transit" or walking. I wasn't considering a cab to be public transit and I wouldn't suggest ANYOnE try to get anywhere on SCAT. :D

That said, It is quite easy to rent a car or take a cab to get to Lido Beach from SRQ. :)
